Pet peeves.

Go.

People who chew with their mouths open

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Ken - 11-29-2012

Not using turning signals. I.e. nearly all people in Harrisonburg.

*EDIT*

Oh, and people who don't say "thank-you" when you hold the door for them. Sons of bitches.

Ken- you probably will agree with me on this one........ people who stop at the line at an intersection to make left turn...blinker on.... I grew up taught to creep out into the intersection with blinker on and turn when you can. Sometimes I want to just push them out into the intersection.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Evan - 11-29-2012

dbags who deliberately try to block you from merging into THEIR lane

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Jake - 11-29-2012

People who respond to a food-service-worker's "Hi, how are you doing today?" with their order. It's fucking rude. Say "fine, good, awful, horrendous" but say something to recognize them as another human being before just spouting out what you want to eat.

Good one!

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - NTIman - 11-29-2012

People who flash their lights at me when I am right beside another car and intend on getting over ASAP. Yeah, yeah, I know it's a state law, but I'm not going to hold anyone up any longer than I have to. I don't want a car up my ass just like they don't want a car holding them up.

Also, people who ride your ass when you're already going well over the speed limit.

Agreed. Can't stand the people around JMU that don't understand this.

Also people that turn left on a yellow arrow at a snails pace. Move it along so I can make the god damn light.

The reason I don't tend to creep out into the intersection is because if I'm not able to make it then I'm stuck out in the intersection and may end up blocking traffic in the perpendicular lane. A lot of people end up blocking traffic in DC by trying to either creep out on a green light left turn, or when they're trying to cross an intersection where traffic is backed up. This in turn, blocks traffic on another street.

i even make a point to smile (i know, hard to believe)

A cop once told me that if you are in the middle of the intersection when the light turns red, you are legally allowed to make the turn to get out of the intersection. No excuses not to creep.

Sure, that's assuming that you can indeed make the turn. But if a guy in the oncoming lane is trying to beat the light (like many in DC do) then you won't be able to turn right when the light turns red. Or you try to dart out and get t-boned. In the meantime, the other light has turned green and you're now the person blocking traffic from the cross street. For me the risk/reward ratio of creeping doesn't really justify it. If I can make the left turn, me being 5 ft into the intersection isn't gonna make much difference.

EDIT: All bets are off when I'm driving in Latin America. In Panama for instance, you will repeatedly get your right of way violated and in turn, you must violate other people's right of way if you wanna get where you're going. It's what I imagine it would be like shanking someone in jail, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do in a hostile environment.

Bus drivers here tell you to have a nice day... and riders thank them for driving the bus.

It still blows my mind.

On a related note, people who try to wait until the last second to merge in a effort to "cut the line" if you will. Sorry, fuck you, i AM going to block you out.

People that do ^^ drive me insane. Are you in that much of a hurry that you have to jut your car out into opposite direction travel lanes and wait till the light turns red and then turn? Leave home 2 minutes earlier and wait at the line like you're supposed too. If you don't have time to turn from the line but you do from the middle of the intersection you're cutting it too close anyways.

As for every other pet peeve in this thread, I pretty much agree.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Goodspeed - 11-30-2012

People who pull into the straight-or-right hand turn lane at a red light, intending to go straight, when the straight-only lane right next to them has one or two cars in it. Then they end up blocking five people behind them with right hand turn signals flashing. Happens allllll the time at this intersection near my home, with one of the longest lights in history.

Oh, and +1 on the people who don't say thank you when you hold the door for them. I've straight called people on that bullshit several times.

People who get inside an entrance and - just - stop. Supermarket entrances are the worst - clogging everything up while they get their list out, big-ass cart askew blocking your entrance. I've often grabbed their cart and shoved it out of the way to get by

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - ScottyB - 11-30-2012

stopping on a yield ramp with minimal traffic. i've literally just driven around people on the shoulder hoping they would get the idea.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Mike - 11-30-2012

People who flash their lights at me thinking my high beams are on (HIDs). I hope they feel foolish when I do actually flash mine back; they're bright as fuck and must hurt.
