It's definitely not until you get to senior status that those guys do "well".
I mean I have seen Rolexes on pilots' wrists before but I think it's more likely that they are looking at their watches more as a tool than a statement. A $300 ecodrive Citizen with world time / atomic / GMT function is generally more useful than most luxury watches.
