Quote:so what's the skinny on APL after the latest hype-hype event? the "Pro" line ethos seems muddied up and innovation has been relatively stagnant and disjointed (keeping headphone jacks on the new MacBook, so brave! ). what is making buying a shiny new apple thing a strong proposition over keeping an old one?
This may be the time to consider either getting out of AAPL or at least hedging. That Macbook Pro unveil makes it clear that the people steering the ship don't know what the hell they're doing and are on borrowed time before the ship starts sinking. To be clear they're not gonna bankrupt or anything but profit and marketshare is going to continue to wane if they keep going like this.
The fact that they evidently wasted a bunch of money gearing up to enter the auto industry in some fashion, yet somehow couldn't deliver on their core computing competency says it all.
Maybe Apple will realize their error and do an emergency redesign of the Macbook Pros but I seriously doubt it. I also doubt they're going to deliver meaningful updates for the iMac, Mac Mini, or Mac Pro anytime soon. All together their PC division is only something like 10% of their revenue but their indifference and incompetence in that segment is a huge red flag. They should be embarrassed that their all-new machine has the same max RAM as the one they sold 4 years ago.
I've been on Macs for about 8-9 years now, and I think I'll be switching completely back to PC.
