It really depends on how bad you want your motor to get, especially since it's showing questionable numbers now (pending results of another gauge, and a leak down), why press your luck (especially with your car luck history)?.
I know it's not a spec Miata, that doesn't change the needs of the motor. The spec Miata gets an oil/filter change after every race weekend. I could probably save it and put it in the street car.
Oil is cheap, so is the filter, do it the correct way.
