Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 06-11-2016 We should have known after my first BMW, I would have to buy an M car! ![]() Oh... it's a Miata. After getting back from looking at very busted Miatas, Zach stopped by my house to grab my cooler and mentioned some car he saw way outside of town on 11 at a small dealership. We went to look and lo and behold, it was an immaculate M edition. 107,000 miles All leather Torsen LSD All power everything 10/10 interior and exterior All new belts, radiator, tb/wp, seals, and hoses within last 10000 miles with reciepts Everything works except the power antenna, a small tear in the rear window and a wobbly idle. Also missing 2 bbs wheel center caps The best part is that I even talked him down on the already low price. He must not have known what M editions were worth since it was a truck dealership. I'm very excited. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - BLINGMW - 06-11-2016 sweet! Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Beej - 06-11-2016  I know precious little about Miatas but just did some reading and it sounds like you found a rare bird. I really dig the color combo and it seems to be in great shape. Congrats! I think it's policy to say something negative/hyper-critical in your threads. You really should've held out for a car that had all its center caps and that grille screen is shit. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - WRXtranceformed - 06-11-2016 Very nice dude, looks MUCH improved over the past example. Sometimes that perfect car just falls from the sky! Any thoughts on what the idle issue could be? Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 06-11-2016 Pretty certain it is a vacuum leak. If not, I'll fiddle with the idle speed control valve. I'm sure I'll have a couple people up here at the track looking at it with me tonight. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - JPolen01 - 06-11-2016 Looks like you found a good one. That color combo is weird but I like it. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 06-12-2016 Well, this is my first time at a computer since I bought it. I just got back from Summit a couple of hours ago and took the time to wash and wax it really quickly. As you can see in Matt's post, the Summit Point dust made me quickly forget what color my car is. Even after a crappy $3 car wash spray down and a 10 minute wax job, this paint SHINES. It's honestly some of the best paint I've ever seen and I might get it detailed in the future professionally or learn myself so I can gun for "Best paint" at next year's show. I bought some clear tape and re-taped the slit in the back window. Perfectly waterproof. I also sprayed water deliberately at the roof seals to see if they leak, and they do, but they pass the test for realistic situations for now. I am 100% certain this car was garage kept its entire life. The interior is very clean, the seats are in great condition, and the engine bay is immaculate. It's too clean. As for driving it, it feels amazing. It's a far cry from the POS miata I had before. The seats are comfortable, the interior is BIGGER than a regular NA because of the special M seats and how thin they are. The A/C is great, cruise control works well, and the leather wrapped steering wheel is inviting. The clutch is buttery smooth and the gear changes are perfect. The 1.8 motor is very strong and puts a smile on your face when romping down back roads. It even gets the Jake seal of approval as it was the MM track slut this weekend and even spent some time as the pace car. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here are some quick cell phone pics I took after the quick wash and wax, before the sun went down. I didn't get a chance to clean the inch of dust covering the interior though. Don't mind the blue tape on the antenna. That was just to listen to the radio on the way back and get perfect reception. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Jake - 06-12-2016 I think I put more miles on it than Taylor did this weekend. Big ups for letting me use Megan as Pace Two both days at Summit. Initial thoughts... the white one was a shitpile, this is one that I'd buy with my own money. Ancient Walmart tires suck. Brakes are pretty iffy (shit pads/old fluid) but hey, it has ABS which like no other Miatas got. Didn't brake hard enough to use it. Got a little sideways in the carousel, did I mention the tires? God these are slow cars but they're so fun. Hey this has tweeters in the door cards and the stock sound system is a little less sucktastic. Top looks nice, back window has a tear but that's an easy fix. Merlot Mica is pretty in the sun. He should really put a rollbar in this eventually. Ohhh fuck no grip no grip. Yay, good buy. </brain dump> Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - EclipseTurbno93 - 06-12-2016 I like this car a lot. Interior definitely seems larger than the NB , and driving the two back to back, the power difference is noticeable but not significant enough to matter I think. Went a little to fast over a few bumps on my drive (sorry Taylor...) suspension seems to be in great shape, no small feat for a 21 year old car. Only problem areas seemed to be the rough idle (solved?) and the tires (Mirada sports? Never heard of em) which were squirrelly around the pheasant bend at no more than ~30 mph. Great buy overall, here's hoping for trouble free ownership!! I plan to keep it. I just need to learn how to care for it properly. Starting with a good car cover. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - SlimKlim - 06-13-2016 Don't put a cover on it outside. It will rub dirt into the paint over time from the wind and rain. You're better of splurging on a decent synthetic sealant. I'm a huge fan of this stuff, and as far as high-end car care product go, its pretty cheap considering how long it lasts: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.autogeek.net/pbexp16.html">http://www.autogeek.net/pbexp16.html</a><!-- m --> Apply it every 3 months, it goes on just like regular wax but lasts a lot longer and will prevent the paint from accumulating water stains, sap stains, etc. If you really want to go nuts bring it up to my house some weekend and I'll teach you how to use the buffer and let you use my supplies to give a thorough clay, cut, polish and wax. If you think it looks good now, you'll need a change of pants after seeing it fresh after a polish. F'real though, it's crazy what a buffer and some patience can do for ya: <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.mmsports.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=213669#p213669">viewtopic.php?p=213669#p213669</a><!-- l --> Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - ScottyB - 06-13-2016 SlimKlim Wrote:You're better of splurging on a decent synthetic sealant. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 06-13-2016 I'll have to take you up on that if I find the time. I hate having to park here at home in a gravel driveway. I've thought about maybe getting a tent or something to put over it. This car deserves to be inside, or at least one pavement. Stopped and grabbed some pictures on the way back to Lynchburg today with my snazzy new license plates. ![]() ![]() ![]()
