Unfortunately for him he is going to have to plastigauge it since he spun a rod after it gets back from the machine shop. Not necessarily complicated but it does take longer. Good luck finding a good machine shop, I have had lots of problems with machine shops.
My vote, take your losses, sell everything or buy a crate ls3 from GM with a warranty and get on your way.
