The GoatBoat: 2006 Pontiac GTO - Tyler.M - 02-18-2015

It's only been like a year since I've posted anything.

I guess I little bit of a recap is in order.

I bought a 2013 FRS last January, on MLK day. It made me feel like Thor, God of Driving, but it was slow and not all that great in the snow. So, when I got a position in Boston around August (and the company was paying for the cah to drive to the haba) I decided to sell all my earthly possessions to prepare to make a permanent move. That means, no more sexy FRS. No more SV650. No more track-prepped R6 that I stupidly turned into a street bike, rode it a handful of times, dropped it at 5 mph, and sold immediately (for a profit!).

Boston didn't work out, sadly. (Or maybe not. Boston in August is like Virginia in December. Cold. Not good for motorcyling). So I came back in September and picked up a slightly used (73k), one owner 2006 Pontiac GTO with a CAI, full headers and exhaust.

It has taken me to Pittsburgh and back. To DC, Charlottesville, various mountain bombs, and I can safely say that everything needs more power. As the FRS was a surgical tool, this thing is a jackhammer. And yes, I think its ugly on the outside, too, but that's sort of the appeal. There are few things better than looking like a bloated Cobalt but sounding like Cerberus with rabies. Car guys know what the car is, but few other people do.

Also, as everyone says, the GTO has the best interior that GM has ever made. Seriously. It almost makes me forget the other stuff I don't like.

I'm going to attend the AutoX test and tune in March and see what the car (and what my limited abilities) can do. Spoiler alert: I'm going to spin out and there will be body roll for days. Pics soon, once I try to figure out what image hosting site I used in the past. It's been awhile.

*Edit*

I dun figured it out. PS, anyone know of a way to image host through Google? Going through PhotoBucket is a PITA.

Prepare for the awesome photography skills of a millennial and a cellphone:

It has 200 mph on the speedo just in case you forgot it had a V8.

I strategically took pictures of everything but the front. Work dem angles.

None of these photos are recent, since its covered in snow in the driveway at the moment. Once it gets nice, I might try out my new camera and do some video recording of mountain runs and such.

So I guess you kept it

Yeah... I decided the revolving garage door was starting to get more stressful than fun. I've driven/owned a little bit from every sort of segment (German sports car, Japanese thing, and now American (Aussie?) muscle.) I think I'll stick with this for a bit.

Good choice! I was waiting for someone in mm to scoop one of these one day. Looking forward to progress updates!

Thanks! If I do anything, it's a short throw shifter and breaks/suspension. Maybe wheels, eventually. Actually, a new head-unit is probably first. I've had to revert to listening to CD's and there's only so many times I can listen to Modest Mouse.

Awesome purchase, need pics. And video for sound.

Hopefully you haven't broken anything on it yet! Tongue

Ha, good find. Coffee is not very conducive to proof-reading.

I have pics and I'll do some simple video, too in a few days. I've been meaning to do that actually.

Re: The GoatBoat: 2006 Pontiac GTO - ScottyB - 02-18-2015

points straight away for thread title. hilarious!

i love these cars. wish i would have picked one up when i was still without a kid. a true modern muscle car. i recall reading a story a while ago about a guy that tried to unofficially break the the NY to LA record in one of these and by all accounts it sounds like the perfect car for bombing long distance trips.

what kind of options did you end up with? 4AT/6MT, 17's or 18's, color? these things came in some awesome colors.

That porthole on the back is worth the purchase price alone.

Also, instead of cluttering up the Introductions board, I might as well post a few pictures of the 3 other vehicles I've owned in the last year. All of these have found new homes and all of these I didn't spend as much time with as I should have:

2007 Sv650 and 2004 Yamaha R6

New fairings straight from the land of quality craftsmanship; China.

SV650 on one of the last long-ish distance rides through WVA. Decided to take some decent pictures to sell it, and ended up doing so with this photo. Note the quality framing of the shot, as I cut off part of the mirror.

2013 FRS.

First hyperdrive! I'm number 1. (I actually did this because 1 used the least amount of tape, and I was borrowing it from someone).

Reddish Knob date, with wine. Probably the closest I'll ever get to a British-style daytrip.

I was nervous and did horribly. The guy in the passenger seat is actually the guy I bought the R6 from. Thanks again PoleCat for helping me pick that bike up

Nice pics! Goat looks good - I'm curious to hear more of your thoughts of light/nimble FR-S vs. heavy/high power GTO.

And you are now locked in a battle with Joey for longest signature "Sold" list

Me?!

There's no way I'm the worst offender on here, Jake has owned more vehicles than I have I think.

At least I would think it is a little goading about how you guys put your old cars in your sig lists.

Yeah, because displaying what you've owned in the past, just in case someone who owns one now and needs advice, is clearly for bragging rights  Also, old project threads (which I link to) are fun to read, so uh, tough shit? I think you can turn off signatures in the User CP if it bothers you so greatly.
