They all started life as hardtops, just a two-door version of the same-era Camry. Some with I4, some with V6. The convertibles were created by ASC (American Sunroof Corporation, now American Specialty Cars). Convertibles were built as coupes, sent to ASC for conversion, and sold by Toyota dealers.
ASC has built a lot of convertibles, actually.
