Matthew Craig - MJCraig - 09-11-2014 Hey everyone, I'm Matthew. I'm a Junior Nursing Major, pending acceptance into the program. I drive a 2001 Toyota Solara with about 156-157k on it. There's also a first gen Miata in the family back home that I'd like to bring up sometime to Autocross. Both are stock other than some wheels and tires on the Miata. I'm here because I'm interested in learning more and having some people to talk to about cars (so I can stop boring my girlfriend and anyone else within 10 miles of me) as well as make some new friends. Anyway, here's my Solara: ![]() Dat lens flare doe. ![]() ![]() Thanks for viewing! I hope to get to know you guys better this semester! -Matthew Re: Matthew Craig - Jake - 09-11-2014 Welcome to MM! Pretty color, I'm a sucker for any good blue. We used to have a guy in MM (Steve) who had a red Solara that he modified fairly heavily... project thread here in case you're curious Hopefully we'll see you (and maybe that Miata!) out at some events!
Re: Matthew Craig - Senor_Taylor - 09-11-2014 They made hard top Soloras? Re: Matthew Craig - rherold9 - 09-12-2014 Yes indeed. My neighbor had one for awhile. Interesting car Re: Matthew Craig - Senor_Taylor - 09-12-2014 Interesting. Welcome to the club, man! Re: Matthew Craig - Jake - 09-12-2014 Senor_Taylor Wrote:They made hard top Soloras? They all started life as hardtops, just a two-door version of the same-era Camry. Some with I4, some with V6. The convertibles were created by ASC (American Sunroof Corporation, now American Specialty Cars). Convertibles were built as coupes, sent to ASC for conversion, and sold by Toyota dealers. ASC has built a lot of convertibles, actually. Re: Matthew Craig - MJCraig - 09-12-2014 Thanks for welcoming me, guys! I agree with you about the paint, Jake. I think that's probably the car's best feature. I know that it's no M3 or 350Z, but I get coupe styling with Camry gas mileage and the 3.0 V6 isn't too underpowered. I wish I could have gotten the 5-speed but the deal I got on it was too good to pass up. Re: Matthew Craig - Sully - 09-12-2014 Hey, this was built on top of the same chassis you have. One off Nascar v8 Camry Coupe
Re: Matthew Craig - Goodspeed - 09-12-2014 Welcome! My parent's Avalon rocks the same 1MZ-FE, sweet motor. I want to take theirs, supercharge it, and put it in the middle of a MR2 sometimes. Re: Matthew Craig - MJCraig - 09-12-2014 Sully, that Nascar is pretty cool. Makes me wish that the Solara wasn't discontinued and lasted into that gen. David, if I had some more cash that wasn't going towards food, rent, and tuition, the TRD Supercharger would be really tempting. If your parent's Avalon ever gets a non-drivetrain problem that kills it, do it! Re: Matthew Craig - JPolen01 - 09-13-2014 Goodspeed Wrote:Welcome! Goodspeed, you have the weirdest fetishes when it comes to cars. I love it. |
