I think youre looking at the purpose of a camera differently. Its not security. I dont use any home automation stuff for security and I think you're foolish if you do. Cameras dont *stop* anyone from doing anything. You dont have a security guard monitoring them. If you use them as deterrents then you have ugly ass cameras in obvious places. Good luck getting your wife to sign on to that.
Best case is maybe you got some video of the bad guy to help police (not) catch him later.
Personally I give no shits about what happens *after* a bad guy finishes does bad things.
The cameras are for information. Who is at the door, when the babysitter came, is my wife home, who came to my house, who is letting their dog piss in my yard etc.
but if I WAS using the camera for security, the best possible thing is for him to unplug it.
He just showed the camera up close his mugshot, and my home automation controller sends me an alert when the camera goes offline.

Of course i understand the concept is to catch vandalizing or thieves going after cars or are to inexperience to go for the camera. Or in Evans case, sounds like it could be used to see who's at the door/keep a record of itI know! and they could totally spray paint it just like in the movies!
