MM Car calender
#25
I've been picking heavy things up and putting them down all weekend so I missed this thread but:

#1: it's a CalendAr. Jesus. The red squiggly line means you need to right click on it to get it spelled right.

#2: This idea was thrown up as a fund-raiser in 2011, as Polecat mentioned. Sort of a classic garage-wall 'Ladies and Cars' calendar. You can read the thread here. It failed for a number of reasons:
A: It was deemed (rightly or wrongly) as offensive to women. Just because it's a staple of car culture "doesn't make it right", I was told. We had our first shoot car/location pulled for this reason.
B: We had 3 sponsors, each buying a themed month...this still wasn't enough money to print enough calendars to sell ON campus. There was a lot of concern that we were doing this for a non-JMU audience, and which did we want more: Increased membership or a (modestly) increased bank account. If it wasn't going to be local, then how would we differentiate ourselves from any bullshit calendar they could buy in the mall? And if it was going to be local, shouldnt' we use local talent, which there was not enough OF to sell the calendar to anyone other than MMers. Only MMers and real car nuts think a E36 race car is cool. Everyone else just sees exactly what the "regular car reviews" guy sees. And if there are real car nuts at JMU who aren't in MM, then it isn't a calendar we need.
C: You can barely get current students to the track when they have a ride, floorspace, and free beer. Getting them to do ANYTHING is herding cats, and that includes anything related to pursuing sponsors, selling calendars, organizing quotes for printing, everything. It was a nightmare.

#3: If you guys just want to all get together and take pictures of your cars and make a calendar, knock yourself out. It would be fun and nice and neat. But if you're going to try to use it as a recruitment or fundraising tool, take a good look at your expectations vs reality.
