MM Car calender - Senor_Taylor - 02-08-2014

Alright guys, something good came out of our resident handsome man, Chris Lacey being on JMU crushes.

https://www.facebook.com/JmuCrushes/pos ... ream_ref=5

Samantha suggested we make a calender with our cars. Has this ever been done?

Shouldn't be hard to make and we could sell them. Now I'm sure we'll have to make one for next year since it's already late... or something.

We could group everyone together, so Bimmers on one month, offroad vehicles on a another, mustangs, GM people, etc.

The cover could be the whole club together in on big fisheye view.

Of course Alums would be welcome and needed to make this happen.

What do you guys think ?

Re: MM Car calender - ispoonwithmugen - 02-08-2014

I think it is a great idea. But I'm unsure of who we would sell it to. There's only so much of a market for stuff like that and I don't see JMU students being one.

Re: MM Car calender - Senor_Taylor - 02-08-2014

Depending on what the cost is for us to do it, I'm sure we could sell some at the car show maybe. Probably next years. I know I'd buy one. Current members and alums would be enough to break even or make a little profit.

Plus, it'd be fun.

Re: MM Car calender - JPolen01 - 02-08-2014

Rex and I have talked this over before. We even had different months planned out with themes and all and incorporated local businesses as sponsors. I went as far as finding a girl who was a professional model as well as a student at jmu. The problem is finding 12 cool cars. People aren't going to buy a calendar of regular sports cars and jeeps. Not knocking anyone's vehicles in the club, but there are little to no cars meeting magazine/calendar standards.

Re: MM Car calender - Sully - 02-08-2014

This was an idea a year or so ago. It pretty much failed 100%.

I don't see any market what so ever but thats just me.

Well damn :/

Re: MM Car calender - Sully - 02-08-2014

The plan was originally to use the nicer cars in the club and some model like JMU girls but nothing could be scheduled accordingly. And that was just for one car at a time. It would be Damn near impossible to get all the schedule synced up to have euros and 4x4 come together

Re: MM Car calender - Senor_Taylor - 02-08-2014

But say we did get everything lined up, do you think it'd be a good idea?

Re: MM Car calender - SlimKlim - 02-08-2014

If you wanted to do a calendar just for members and not as a fundraiser, I put one together for another forum using artscow.com, which lets you share a link to the calendar so people can just order their own. They were $18 shipped and came out pretty well, but it did take 2-3 weeks to get them because the place was in Hong Kong.

I'll look into that! Thanks.

Re: MM Car calender - Stormtrooper135i - 02-08-2014

I say this is an awesome idea... I could deff get some girls to model in the pics. No question would we have to single out the better looking cars, but i don't see why we couldn't throw a lil mix up in there with one month being the trucks, jeeps, etc all dirty and well the girls would be muddy posing in some sort of manner. But the thing is were not trying to sell sex here, i think this is a good way to expand the clubs horizons across campus and encourage more people to join so with that said we need to come up with a plan of action as to what we are trying to market/sell in this situation because i would love an MM calendar with a pic of a cool car then a cluster of pics with all the cars on the back of the calendar, front of calendar just MM with like a Ferrari F40 in the background and some cool quote from Clarkson. This is deff. something that could be discussed in our next meet.

Re: MM Car calender - Stormtrooper135i - 02-08-2014

we could also make a few months dedicated to either: auto x events, karting, car shows, track days at VIR or Summit. We need some more ideas rather than a just big MM sticker on our cars and t-shirts to promote and attract more member to the club so I think this is a great idea. Maybe even some cool flyers that could be posted around campus by all us members, or possibly we could start a lil fundraiser within just the club to donate money so we could just hand out calendars for free as well as have some for personal use.

Re: MM Car calender - Senor_Taylor - 02-08-2014

Pierce raises a good point, making some nice flyers and brochures is a good idea too. Really need to spread the word on the car club.

Still think my idea for a shift that says "JMU Car Club: Madison Motorsports" is needed so people know we're a club.

Tbh the best way to reach students is by email. I know this from my work on campus. We still do flyer/poster adverts just for the sake of it but 90% of the students at our programs tell us they found out because of mass emails. People barely notice flyers on bulletin boards and we are already targeting a small percentage of the jmu population. If you want to go that route, let me know and i can see if I can get one sent out for the club.

Re: MM Car calender - ispoonwithmugen - 02-09-2014

Something we execs do (which were not allowed to) is we put MM's business cards on cars on campus that we believe would be interested. We send out mass emails but the student orgs make it a pain in the ass and if I remember right you only get a certain number a semester. We definitely will send one out for the spring car show.

Re: MM Car calender - ispoonwithmugen - 02-09-2014

If you guys would be interested in helping out with the MM cards let us know. you just have to be cautious about it and make sure 1) parking services isn't around) and 2) not to overdo it (i.e. putting it on every car in a line).

How do they make it a pain?

Tacky. I'd buy a calendar full of camaros before I'd buy a calendar full of muddy girls. We're a car club, not a gentlemen's club. But I like the idea of trying to cater to everyone's taste in vehicle. Even if we can't sell it on a large scale, I bet members would think it was cool enough to buy one for whatever it costs to make it. I know I wouldn't really care so much about what cars were featured. It would just be special knowing that it was something the club put together to showcase its members. And I like the idea about having quotes from people in there too.

Yup, i totally agree.... I had someone in Atlanta airport ask me if i was a sponsored race car driver just b/c of the MM sticker on my lap top. People need to recognize that this is a "JMU" specific Car club. Madison could mean anything, but, then again, i personally do not agree on a name change b/c its disrespectful to the tradition as well as to the Alum who put so much time and effort into making such a great car club. Again, this is why we have meeting to discuss such things...

Email, eh, well i never delete our MM emails, but as we all know we get so much junk mail being JMU students and i think some just fly thru there emails and delete everything until they get to what they might feel as important. A flyer/brochure or whatever i think would be great to get the word out on what the club entails, even if they read it for 5 sec then throw it back down on the table, its still getting the word out.
Also my first year here i was a little bit intimidated to join, so i personally feel dedicating an hour or so to each side of campus handing flyers out and explaining to people what we do to put them in a comfort zone will encourage more people to join and be dedicated future members.
