Removing scratches from glass?

Last winter I repaired my post-snowpocalypse windshield using a wet sanding method I found on google. Something like 500-2000grit wet, straight lines and then some sort of sealer/polish overtop. Maybe look into that before you replace the windshield, because $180 is $180. Even if you have full coverage, there's going to be a deductible involved.
