In the grand scheme of things, we really aren't that bad off. I remember that drop in '02 being labeled a "market correction".

my guess is we'll level off at 9500 and then begin another build to 16000 for a few years, then drop back to 12ish, then raise higher than 16. that's how a lot of stocks work, at least. constant up and down with the highs and lows being a bit higher than last time.
