So now there's the rumor that Palin's last child wasn't really hers, but was her grandson. Apparently her 16 year old daughter was 'out with mono' for 5 months that coincided with the last 5 months of the governor's purported pregnancy. There are other anomalies like her staff not noticing she was pregnant when she announced at about 7 months on, and how after her 'water broke' she got on a plane for an 8 hour ride back to Alaska.
Be that as it may, this seems to be something that maybe doesn't really matter. A mother lying to cover up her daughter's pregnancy? Happens. Some would say the daughter's pregnancy would be hypocritical given her stances on family values and what not but not everyone can control what their children do (see Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter). And she didn't have her get an abortion so she didn't break from her values on that.
The only major problem comes if she falsified documents (which I believe is a crime). That would fly directly in the face of the anti-corruption platform she has run on.
Still, there's the fact that if Democrats really go after her on this it will look bad, especially if they're wrong. People will have to be extremely careful about how they criticize her if this turns out to be true. For my money I can't see a whole lot wrong with someone trying to protect their daughter, but lying and possibly breaking the law is a problem. Especially when there's the investigation pending on her involvement in a state trooper firing.
