I'm with Gerald on this one, this is something that should have been resolved years ago and has absolutely destroyed American open wheel racing. The Indy 500 used to be the biggest event in America and possibly the world, and now even the Indianapolis motor speedway makes most of its money from NASCAR.
At this point I think they have to run a significant number of road courses just to offer something different than NASCAR, otherwise I think the average consumer (non-die-hard racing enthusiast) will just look at IRL and say "It's just a slight faster and different looking NASCAR where theres less bumping and crashes, and we don't know anyone outside of Danica Patrick... and she never wins."
