There used to be project threads, discussion, etc. Now we get to hear about DJ's DSM when it breaks. There used to be discussion about track events, autocrosses, stuff like that, now we *might* get a picture of goodspeed's funny tape smiley on his hood, and god forbid any actual pictures or stories from the track.
I think Rex nailed it. With the same 20 people posting all the time, there's only so much car stuff that people can talk about. When we cover all the topics we can cover, people ramble off into OT. We all have the same hobby but without an influx of new projects or people, there simply isn't going to be enough things to talk about.
When you get to that point you have two options. Either you go OT (like we always do) in an attempt to keep it interesting or everyone agrees to adopt a comfortable silence. I'm guessing a lot of people would opt for the latter but the problem with that is silence is generally infectious. If people don't see new posts they're less likely to visit and/or post, which eventually leads to a derelict forum. I've seen it happen before and generally speaking they don't recover.
I think for the most part, the crap around here is in good faith. I think people that don't know each other tend to misinterpret reactions and/or take things more seriously than they were intended. IMO, MM has become a lot like it is in the paddock. Yes, you talk about cars when necessary but for the most part you're making fun of someone, debating who's sister is a bigger whore or just generally paling around because everyone's friendly with one another. I don't know what's so bad about that.

That's the thing... I've never misrepresented myself here. Generally speaking, I'll be the first to bust balls in conversation and what people see as "poking pinprick holes" here is just that. It may come across as argumentative because we don't have intonation or context here, but I assure it's not meant that way.
It's no secret that Pete and I don't really get along. He doesn't like the person I am (here) and I think it's because things come across differently as ones and zeros.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
