Very true, my sister has GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), which the doctors say was triggered by a Home Invasion. Some construction workers from a house down the street tried to break into our house while she was home asleep, luckily the alarm was on and it was enough to deter them and they left. Needs less to say she woke up (14 at the time) home alone with the Alarm blaring and the back door glass broken. She has to take a pill everyday and doesn't feel safe alone ever and will go as far as having a panic attack if she is. She is now 18.
Because of that event, if I ever saw someone on my parents property or my own and they even looked threatening I would not think twice about yielding a firearm for my protection. Luckily this was in Texas.
