Yeah I think that had this car been designed totally from the ground up it could have been quite a bit lighter. I think the thing with the FM (and by proxy the PM) platform has been that it was compromised a bit in order to be flexible which has made the sports/sporty cars built on the platform heavier than they needed to be.
The upside to platform sharing is lower cost. At $80k its not cheap but for what it is, I think its not bad.
Again though, I wouldn't ride on the Nurburgring lap time bandwagon just yet. Let's wait until there are some controlled comparos.
