Taking a clear picture is not the point of a 50mm lens, it's just what you're using it for. You can do that with any lens. The point of the fast 50mm is the ability to dial the aperture way up.

true, but the cheap canon 50 just happens to be very sharp.

I have a lot of fun with the big aperture of the lens. Low light shooting (although the AF isnt too hot in low light) and playing with the depth of field. I love to make the subject really pop out with a big aperture. Its too easy to go overboard though and make your DoF too shallow like I did with some flower shots
