Andy - have Joan turn it into a math problem. Have them calculate how much distance they are covering at 150mph every 30 seconds and determine if it is actually feasible to go that fast in that distance.
Depending on the grade/level, they could go so far as calculating the horsepower required to go from 0-150 in 3 miles, etc.
That'd shut'em up!
