Reading through this thread has made my afternoon.
I think this has an easy solution, the roads should be not be covered with salt and sand, but pixie dust and glitter instead. It offers better grip and when it gets into the rivers and lakes the fish will all be able to fly and fart glitter!
(its good for driveways too!)
