Possibility the Supra may be sold
#86
wow, there's a lot going on here. First off, I'd like to point out that Thayer's a dolt for wanting to get rid of his car, especially when I'm not in a good position to buy it at a discount, strip it, and track the shit out of it :-).
Now that that is out of the way, there's a few things that I think are pretty important to this. I feel like the list might be a bit limited, though it does give a good idea of what you're thinking about. Ryan, you're about to graduate soon, so do you forsee needing the utility of a backseat or truck in the near future? How important is gas economy and do you see yourself driving a lot? I'll go through your choices:
-I know you've got a truck, so you'd be a crackhead for getting another one. I mean, seriously, who needs more than one truck? :-D
-If you sell your supra and buy another one, that would be retarded. You've got one of the rarest forms you can get, it's in great shape, it sounds and looks fantastic and, unless something's changed, you've had virtually no problems with it and have always been very pleased with it. Selling it, regardless of how much profit, and buying somebody else's supra with a shady history would be an exercise is stupidity considering how good yours is. If you seriously need to drive a targa supra, let me know and we can arrange a trade for a little while, but it's no reason to sell yours :-D
-You've had the camaro before and you read my last paragraph. If you're going to do something dumb like that, at least get the Corvette.
-Corvettes are cool, but they are so cliche. If I see a young guy driving a corvette, a lot of the time I think they must not have much imagination since that's what old guys get in their crisis to convince themselves they've done well in life. Young guys in vettes strike me that they want everybody to think they're doing well, but couldn't think of something cool to drive to show it. Rant over; they are a cool car and being that you'll actually drive it at events, you don't fall into this category. However, you've got two in your family and I get the impression you could drive one pretty much whenever you wanted. If my dad had an NSX that I could drive occaisionally, I don't think I'd have as much desire to spend my money and buy one. That said, it would be cool to have three in the family, although it'd put a lot of pressure on Russ :-).
-S2000 are a great-looking car. Verts don't really do much for me, but I can see the appeal to some. If I had an S2000, I'd want to track it, so it's not really an option for me :-). They strike me as being a little too impractical considering the limited cargo and only one extra seat. I don't use it often, but the hatch and back seat of the supra have been invaluable for both of us on several occaisions.
-Lastly, the WRX. Man, what an amazing compromise vehicle. Quick, decent looking, ability to get to work no matter the conditions, huge aftermarket, tons of potential, decent on gas, there seriously isn't much not to love. I often catch myself desiring one or an EVO, considering they can be had fairly cheap now as well. However I really did not enjoy AWD in my Talon. It moved like a raped ape, but it just wasn't RWD and it killed a lot of the enjoyment for me. Considering your lineage of cars and tastes, I think the WRX might do that for you as well. Test drive one, or even try to borrow one from a friend if you know somebody (or any AWD car for that matter), just to see if this is true.

If it were me, I'd probably split the money. Get something nice to daily drive, get something cheap to abuse on the track. An E36 325 to daily with a track miata, 240, or MR2 might even leave you with a bit of money to play with if you shopped and played your cards right.
