Having not experienced it firsthand either, I don't suppose it makes any more sense for me to add back in what you took out. Dan saw what you said and if he didn't know what happened before, he knows now. I just hope that Dan and NASA and those that might have some power over the guy understand that he needs some rehabilitation.
Well, what he did doesn't matter, he won't be back to a NASA-MA race. He might be in HPDE w/ you guys though...
Now, what happened to kent on Sunday? I just read that he wrecked in qualifying? This is the guy w/ the Red/Blue #23 CMC car that show .RJ how a standing start works in Comb school .
I just hope he can't get away with marching back down to NASA-SE region where he normally runs and just act like nothing happened. I think I'll look in to that....

oh great! well, as long as we have a couple red flag drills.

I didn't hear all the details, but just knew that he made contact with a guard rail.
Dragon Wrote:I didn't hear all the details, but just knew that he made contact with a guard rail.
ouch
He was in extremely good spirits when I talked to him on Sunday (after hopping the guard rail on the front straight to put up the window net of a racer before the standing start), so I'm assuming that the incident wasn't too bad. Well either that or he'd had enough to drink already that he'd forgotten about what happened to his car.

I saw it happen, he lost it in T3 and just touched the guardrail just past the tires. Looked like a soft hit, were there tires there im sure he wouldnt have had anything more than some rubber on the car. I figured he would be right back out, but maybe he broke the suspension?

If he hit the rear he could have bent his PHB (like I did), but knowing Ken he'd just pull it off and run w/o it. Maybe he bent a wheel or control arm, that's all I can think.
Sucks, not a good season for mustangs .
Dan emailed me, we worked some things out.

He is not banned, just had his license revoked. But lets let that go.

haha, since when do we limit discussion here to things that only directly relate to us? And in this case, it's my personal oppinion that it DOES relate to us as we have a relationship with NASA and those who participate in their events. I for one would like to know that NASA has some way of following up when a questionable driver is identified. Not that anyone has to have a personal vendetta against the guy to make sure he gets blackballed everywhere, but "that guy" could exsist in any group, and we know he/she does, and I for one am interested in weeding them out. Preferably BEFORE incidents happen that endanger lives.
Matt, if it's you that almost got run over in grid, (I don't know who it was) I would hope you'd think the same way. And I hope you're doing something about it. If that was a trumped up story and he really didn't endanger anyone in grid, then so be it, we can let it go. I do know firsthand however that Tony sure thinks the guy was dangerous, as he was quite vocal about being cut off.

I do know firsthand however that Tony sure thinks the guy was dangerous, as he was quite vocal about being cut off. It wasn't I that was almost run over on grid, my cold kept me indoors most of this event. It's not a trumped up story though, he did blatantly ignore a grid worker's instructions to stop, he did burn some rubber right there in front of a grid worker who was attempting to get clarification on where to send the driver, and he did pull out of the false grid onto a hot track just barely in front of the pace car (cutting Tony off). I got to see all this as I was standing at the end of pit road organizing the bookler flaggers.
The driver has been dealt with, as Chad already mentioned, as a result of the driver's conduct on Sat & Sun his license has been revoked. Nothing other than that in regards to the punishment really needs to be discussed.

I think Matt is referring to how NASA delt with the driver (even though SCCA publishes their actions), not the actual account of what we as individuals saw/heard/was involved in.
white_2kgt Wrote:I think Matt is referring to how NASA delt with the driver (even though SCCA publishes their actions), not the actual account of what we as individuals saw/heard/was involved in. Exactly.
Trust me if it had been me standing there next to this guy's car instead of Kristie I would be chiming in with all of my opinions and comments about the guy and the incident itself.
Personally I think that NASA should publish all the actions that are taken as a result of incidents on and off track, but they don't so nothing I can do about it.
Dragon Wrote:Nothing other than that in regards to the punishment really needs to be discussed.
I think it is important when you go out on track that you know who to watch out for and/or doesn't follow the rules generally. In general when you race you trust that other guy to not take things out on the other drivers, because they know they will not be directly responsible because the whole "its just racing" mantra can and is brought up. I think it is good to have an open discussion, and hopefully Whiteside will contribute what he feels at some point.

Feersty Wrote:I think it is good to have an open discussion, and hopefully Whiteside will contribute what he feels at some point. My point is, as far as the punishment is concerned, there's nothing to discuss. The driver's actions were reviewed, statements were taken, video was reviewed, and punishment was handed down. I am all for open discussion of the incidents that led up to the need for punishment, and encourage it (however I highly doubt that Whiteside will come here to contribute), but there is no point in debating/speculating/whatever about the punishment, as Chad said, his license is revoked, end of disucssion on that part of the topic.

Scaaaaaary. Maybe somebody should punt him in group 3 so he knows what it's like. The 240 is always up for a few more dings :-D.
I'm joking of course, as nobody should intentionally wreck somebody else IMO (although I realize it does happen sometimes). That said, I wouldn't be unhappy if I heard his car got trashed b/c as a result of another of his stunts.
Chad, after reading your original posts on the FFR forum, and the revised ones, i think you were on the right track in editing them a bit. i'm in no place to say i wouldn't be equally angry if it was me but in the end you said what needed to be said. i think you're handling this pretty damn well.
I'm glad NASA did what it had to do in terms of following through with the proper punishment. it sucks, and i hate to see that happen to people but they need to run a tight ship and maintain the right attitude in light of someone being the victim of carelessness.
i hope that in time things are fully resolved, and better yet maybe you guys can have a beer over it some day.
