there's a big difference between intent to rob and actually murdering someone. i'm sure robbing someone is alot easier when you have a gun to their face. also, this is at night....harder to see in the chaos. the guys with guns probably didn't want to shoot their own guy and held back long enough for the marine to kick the guns out of their reach.

also, i doubt the marine had the intent to kill either, like you said. all he had was a pocket knife for crying out loud.

Have you seen the entry level, rifle wielding, expendable armed forces units? They're not much older.
No, I try to avoid the military at all costs =p

Probably not, but when your in the marines, from what I've been told by friends who are marines, they put you in a "kill or be killed" mode which can often be difficult to shake after coming back from service.

not necessarily true.
victims get shot all the time after they give up their money/belongings to the attackers. Just a few months ago a kid got robbed of his North Face jacket, he gave it up, then got shot in the head.
A guy I know got robbed this past winter, and they still beat the fuck out of him. Same group of thugs that killed the Wash Post reporter. Never mind that the DC police are racist fucksticks who accused him of being drunk and wouldnt call him an ambulance....thats another matter entirely (but it doesnt piss me off or anythin gjust thinking about it....)

If the dude tried to get away and he was chased by idiots with guns....then the chasers deserve everything that the dude gives them. I get so sick of the " hand it over" mentality. Go Marine!

Just read more about the incident...

Apparently he stabbed the girl because she jumped on him, and after he stabbed her, the other kid with the handgun tried to shoot him, but the gun misfired....so he kicked it out of his hand then stabbed the shit out of him :lol: I love this story

So he *should* have died, or atleast been shot, but because the gun misfired he kicked it out? Still a good story, but takes away a little of the wonder out of how he managed to disarm two people before they shot him.

It still wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that one guy disarmed two guys with guns with a knife. Someone who is trained in knife fighting at close range against untrained thugs could easily win that one.

But yeah like you said, somewhat less impressive.

so, been out of the loop awhile, just catching up. I love stories like this. It shows that our soldiers are being trained well. In defense of the soldier, I doubt it was intent to kill as many of his assailants as possible. He probably noticed they were children and intended to simply disable them and defend himself. I'm not so stupid that I would jump on a person weilding a knife and not expect to get seriously fucked up in the process, but it's unfortunate that she died (as stated before, natural selection is a bitch). Maybe more people will read this story and decide not to go in a life of crime for fear of coming up on a person and their number being up.

Just to further illustrate the point that even if you cooperate you may still get killed in a robbery:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/09/AR2006070900215.html">http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 00215.html</a><!-- m -->

Not to say you should try to fight the attackers every time but don't make the mistake of assuming they won't hurt you if you play nice. Be aware of your surroundings and be prepared to fight and kill others for your life if necessary.
