correct. when someone hits you your insurance has nothing to do with it unless you're not hapopy with the settlement, in which case it still doesn't matter if you have collision or not. your company will just have your back in the resolution.

that is very good to know. I'll be dropping the cost for collision for the teg when my renewal is up for review.
thanks!
is it really that much to warrant potentially losing 5k?

Damn it you guys, don't chase Rob off... he's the most serious buyer (and quite honestly the person I'd prefer to see take over the car) of anyone yet!
Why the fuck not buy a new car. Brand new job, just out of college, expenses are low. Live it up while you can imo! It feels nice to make such a big transition in your life, and it feels even better to do it in style. Fuck, I now have TWO new cars, and I really don't even make that much money.

and that is intelligent how? a blast can be had in a gamut of cars that are more affordable. i really do apologize for attempting to scare him off, but i don't want to see him dig himself a hole so quickly.

I never said it was the most intelligent thing =p
I'm no fool either though, I know where I stand financially and make decisions based on that. I've had a retirement portfolio since I was young, a 401k and ESOP program for about 6 months, and I own 15 acres of land in one of the richest counties in the country.
Making payments on a ~$20,000ish car isn't so bad if you get a good rate, and if you don't have to pay rent you should have some money to play with. It just depends on how frugal you are, how much of your earnings you put away (for something else eventually anyhow).

Funny, I seem to have been in a lot of the above situations. When I bought the Supra, I was pretty much taken care of. I had a meal plan, no bills,no rent etc. etc. and it was still a royal PITA to get a loan b/c they automatically factor in rent and such. So, I got a job and pretty much everything I made went to car payments.
Fast forward a year, I'm working more and making more, but I refinance for more than original loan and buy the red supra. Dump money into that and lose a ton. Parents had to bail me out on that.
Fast forward to now. I paid for the Talon buy refinancing again. I hate it and it is a huge step up in power. Personally I think it is too fast and it doesn't do what I bought it for. I've already found that I can/will buy another car and have it totally track prepped for less than that initial purchase.
I've learned that buying cheap cars and living easily is a lot better than scraping buy so I could have a nice car. Hence, the fleet of piles sitting in my parking lot .

okok, so at least we agree where is your land? i'm thinking of buying some property on a golf course in baby boomer retirement land, but until i unloaded it for profit i'd be pretty much hosed financially.

Land is part of a family 100 acre farm, right outside of Leesburg off of 704. Maybe 15 minutes from the Greenway.
You should definitely consider that investment. You could probably swing it easier if you got a few people to go in with you and split the profit eventually. Honestly though, selling land is harder than selling a house, unless the land is already developed and ready to roll. Otherwise you have to spend the money for land engineering to develop it yourself, and THAT is no cheap thing. If it's an already developed property though in an area you know is going to blow up, you're golden ^_^

the neighborhood is fully bought, i'd be buying off someone who is already making a profit, but is selling it super low for some reason. the neighborhood is filling up with homes fast. the lot already has a permit for a septic system so that is one of the biggest worries out of the way.
for reference:
-my parents bought on the 18th hole and the ocean for $120k maybe 10 years ago and it is now worth $500k.
-this lot is across the 18th hole, on the main street in the neighborhood, walking distance to the clubhouse/pool/gym, and is on a lake. $110k is a deal considering a food lion just went in closeby and the value of the homes in the neighborhood.
i just can't bring myself to pay a mortgage while still living with the rents

Wow that sounds like a decent price for a golf course neighborhood so close to the course. Would be wise to research a little more though, there may be a legitimate reason why it's selling so low... maybe other permit problems or something of that sort.

Where is feersty in all of this? Ironically he seems to have one of the lower post counts in this thread. I will never own anything other then the cheap cars. I might buy an 86-87 GLHS Omni one day...but thatÔÇÖs only about $3500. ItÔÇÖs a collector car of sorts. The Garage will provide mine and Sylvia's dailies. SheÔÇÖs got her eye on a Durango and I a 300C. The company provides the cars and service, the insurance, and the gas. There is a monthly fee but it is worth it Never have to worry about anything...other then having your car sold out from under you.

Nah, because when he buys a car he'll ask what kind of wheels to get, what kind of intake to get, etc
