Before my dad gets a diagnosis and bill from the shop, what do you think the issue is? I already have my theory...
First gen tacoma 4cyl 2.4 4WD
PS system leaks, looks like I forgot to top it off for a while.
PS pump locked up, belt squealing, he parked it.
Started it up to show me, engine sounds fine but now not even the crank pulley is spinning, so no belts moving at all.
With an inspection mirror I could see the bolts still present in the crank pulley.

Yeah, not unheard of for those to separate.

I understand there's a rubber harmonic balancer inside that pulley, which can sheer and I guess that's it! Haven't heard back from the shop yet...

So far no good, shop monkey cannot seem to loosen the nut, doesn't seem to think there's a harmonic balancer, great now he's prob f'd it up.

Can't loosen the crank pulley bolt?
Maybe he's trying to use a chain wrench to hold the crank pulley?
Those bolts are tight as hell from the factory and almost impossible to remove even with an impact wrench if you can even fit one in there.
Still shouldn't be impossible to remove...

Well he showed me the metal shavings coming from inside the pulley and the bolt is loose, but turning it doesn't free it up. He tightened it and it just got loose again. He'll need to get a lot more out of the way to figure out exactly what's going on but is pretty sure it ate the key and stripped threads on the crank, so it'd need a crank, or, more cost effective, engine. Great.
What's a good place to find parts diagrams of this assembly? I don't fully understand it and writing off this perfectly good running truck because of a bolt seems crazy. I expected we'd drive this truck into the ground, but didn't think that would take us only 6 mo....

Still need a diagram? Shoot me a VIN and I can probably get diagrams from the Toyota parts catalog.

No that's ok, I found some pictures and now understand (mostly) what could be going on and talked the shop guy into spending some more time on it. Jury's still out.

Crank is fucked. Apparently the keyway is gone, but I'm not 100% sure what it's supposed to look like and image searches bring up ones with obvious keys and ones without. Great.

Would be an ideal electric if someone made a kit, considering the longest trip it makes is to the dump. I am not sure what direction we're going yet, but if a guy at the shop wants to give us a couple hundred bucks for it, we might just do that.
