Completely normal, these need revs to warm up. I've been starting mine up before I make coffee in the morning but if I turn the heat on, the temp gauge won't move at all until I drive the car.

Friend's story time: my buddy bought a 1990s Ranger in Alaska and drove it all the way to Frederickburg. Said he drove with no shirt, windows down, heat blasting all the way from Edmonton because otherwise it would overheat.

When I went on the BABE rally, a teammate in an S10 started to overheat going over the Smoky Mountains. We pulled the hood off and threw it in the bed; problem solved.

Finally.

Been giving mine some overdue spring love. I walked out of the office in January and saw someone had casually committed this war crime before the damn car was even a year old.

After washing the dirt off there was a pretty sharp crease in that styling line and a 10" vertical scratch from the edge of the offending door. I have a super high comprehensive deductible so insurance was out, and I decided to just ignore it for the rest of the winter.

I saw Mach V advertising that a PDR guy would be at their open house yesterday to pull dings at a discounted rate so I went over first thing in the morning to get in line. The guy was super nice, said he had been doing PDR for 17 years, and the results definitely show, this is after polishing and touching up, I'll go back and wet sand/re-fill as necessary after it's had a chance to cure and it should pretty much disappear.

I also swapped back to my summer wheels a few weeks ago, did the car's second oil change, and took it down to NGP in Lorton last Friday to have some VAG-COM coding stuff done instead of buying all the crap to do it one time on my own.

I had them switch the throttle to the "direct" response profile vs the "load over time" default option, plus the random stuff like windows up/down with the key, prepping me for the hatch-popper kit, setting the heated seat memory setting to permanent, reverse mirror tilt and making the key fob work when the car is running so I can leave the dog in the car with A/C running and lock it.

I also impulse bought this and popped it in, super easy to install but I almost ripped my arm off anyway because I'm an idiot.

It sounds the same as stock unless you're really beating on it, then it brings a lot more wooshy sucky boosty noises to the table. With the tweak to the throttle mapping it definitely feels a lot sharper and more responsive which is a welcome improvement on a turbo motor that is inherently not-that-responsive. Plus, WOULDJA JUST LOOK AT IT?!

Only problem is now I kinda sorta want an exhaust... I wonder if you can code a GTI to use the flappers on a stock Golf R exhaust...

very nice!

that really sucks about the hit and run... i hate people. that door looks 95% better!

if you ever want to borrow my vag-com let me know. i still have your bmw srs reset tool; i need to get that back to you.

the intake is a nice touch and the turbo noises with the throttle response is nice for every day.

It's not really a hit and run. It's a door ding. Shitty thing to do nonetheless.

I assume the wind caught someone's door or something, but a note would've been nice.

Yeah, I don't think it's worth the premium hike and deductible for a claim. This exact thing happened to my wife's gsw 3 weeks after owning it... Right in the f-crease of the door and left a good sized dent... We see it every time we open the door. I just polished it and filled in the missing paint using a paint pen.

I'd like his number please!  Shoot me a PM or what have you.  The IS got a ding in the rear driver side door's beltline crease the first week I got it (thanks Wegmans parking lot)  Sad

I'm very underwhelmed by the apr intake as far as sound goes after riding around with Zach with his. Looks nice though. I agree with the exhaust. I really wanted one for mine

It's definitely more subtle than I was expecting but I'm not chocking that up as a bad thing, I held off on doing it for so long (really since I got the MKV in like 2013) because I was worried about it being irritating in a daily driver.

Prolly not gonna mess with the exhaust. The best option is the OEM Clubsport but idk where to actually buy one without having to ship it from Latvia. All of the namebrand aftermarket stuff is priced like it's made out of platinum. I like the idea of sticking a cutout between the resonator and rear muffler to have braps-on-demand but I know good and well it'd leak and be a PITA when the valve was closed. Some people cut out the resonators but it doesn't make a huge difference and might introduce some drone, other people hack off the rear can, but that takes it too far for a DD.

I'd love an OEM Golf R exhaust if I could make the adjustable flaps work with the built in driving modes, but I'm not sure if that's even possible and I'd have to buy a new rear valance to make it work. Maybe if I trip over someone selling an OEM R exhaust for cheap I'll explore it more.

It's a little bit more whooshy when you want it to be but not annoying.

The exhaust itch has been nagging at me too, but in my quest for power and ruining my warranty, I think the $700-900 would be better used in a downpipe to get that full stage 2 jawnz going. Something I'll probably consider and go back and forth on for 4 months then never do, then get bored one Saturday next year and go buy it from NGP. We'll see.

Did schedule an appointment with Justin's tint guy to get that done on the 25th - probably just going with the legal limit, I'm already sick of getting in an 100 degree car.

Joey, update your damn signature and quit saying you own my car.

Maybe in another year or so.

I need to get mine tinted too, the guys at Mach V recommended a place called TNT that did both of the shop cars. I think the RS has the legal limit on it and it looks pretty good, not as light as I would've expected.

Welcome back to your yearly dose of “yEaH bUt ChEcK eNgInE lIgHt HAHAHhahahHsfhashshxushdysysg.”

In the past year, I bought Joey’s wheels from his green GTI, put springs on the white one for a slight drop, copied JRay and got the IE v2 intake, MAPerformance downpipe, CTS Turbo fmic, and EQT stage 2 on 93. After installing the fmic, intake temps drop from about 30° above ambient to about 5-10° while moving.

The car now makes “enough” hp and “she shits and gets” torques (in reality, probably 330/380 wheel).

such a good looking car.

my neighbor's got the same MY GTI, upgraded clutch manual, with whatever the R turbo is + the associated downpipe, tune, and intake. no idea what the power levels are but it is stupid fast for what are essentially some really basic boltons and an OEM turbo. he puts a lot of highway miles on it and its been really solid.

They've been out long enough now that tuners are getting very comfortable putting up big numbers.

EQT has a hybrid turbo based on the IS38 (R turbo) that can put out 600 wheel on stock internals with multiport injection, LPFP, and HPFP on E85. Freakin' insane.
