Is anyone here even remotely interested in NASCAR? I grew up watching it as a little kid and kept close-ish tabs to the sport basically till now. My favorite driver is Kasey Kahne. Since he took over for Bill Elliott's #9 car back forever ago, he has always been my favorite. I don't expect to find much in terms of NASCAR fans here, but don't be afraid to crawl out of the hole! Would love to hear your opinions on the sport, good or bad
I've always been a NASCAR fan. I go to at least one Bristol race every year, been to Richmond, Charlotte, and even went to the last NASCAR race held at North Wilkesboro. I've been a Jimmy Johnson fan for a number of years, but my wife always used to pull for Carl Edwards.

That's awesome. I have gone to only one race ever in my life... Richmond back in '06. Loved every second of it and really want to go to another race again in the near future. It's a shame Carl pulled out of NASCAR this year... And Jimmie is pretty cool! Never liked him honestly till he got his 7th. Now I'm pulling for him to get 8
I didn't grow up watching it, and honestly had little interest as I got older, but I still have a strong desire to go to a race some day. My father in law is a fan, so it'd be fun to take him to Richmond or somewhere. I think the people watching alone would be worth the price of admission.

Kesolowski is my boy ever since he live tweeted from inside the car. That guy tears up the road courses.

Kesolowski... Mmmm... Nope haha. Don't like him too much. Talented driver, but kind of a big shot in my opinion. Kahne is very low-key, a lot like I am. I think maybe that's why I appeal to him a lot. The problem is... he is in Hendrick Motorsports, which is one of the best teams out there, but you have Johnson, Dale Jr., and formerly Gordon. Kahne was never treated with much respect... or with as much respect and he always got the worst equipment out of all the drivers.
It's pretty insane actually because Hendrick released a statement a while back saying that they were going to really focus on helping all the cars rather than just Johnson. That's what they basically said, which pretty much means that they didn't really care too much about Kasey. He also has the worst pit crew out of the bunch while Johnson and them all have amazing pit crews.
Ward and Jeff Burton and their older brother are actually from my town and friends with my parents. I pretty much grew up at NASCAR races. Dad started a business a long time ago selling merchandise trackside so as a kid I went to all the east coast races. My parents also ran the gift shop at our local short track so I was there every Saturday too. They got out of the business though and I haven't been to a cup race in 6 or 7 years though. Still go to our "NASCAR" sponsored short track every Saturday to watch one of my friends though.

i don't tune into NASCAR much but i almost never miss them when they run at Sonoma and Watkins Glen. that's some of the best racing you'll see anywhere at any price.

i used to love NASCAR as a kid when the cars were a bit closer to their real life counterparts and the personalities had this larger-than-life feel to them that didn't require as much manufactured drama. if you backed a driver it was almost like you were supporting a family member. big names like Earnhardt, Wallace, Labonte, Allison, the Pettys....loved it. went to my first stock car race at Nazareth Speedway in PA...i heard it closed in 2004

I partied at Denny Hamlin's house once, that's about as close as I've gotten to NASCAR. Never been to a race even having been down here in the home of NASCAR for almost ten years

I agree with Scotty, the personalities around just aren't the same as when I was a kid. Bring back homologation cars and id start watching again. Throw a cage in a hellcat, gt500, and a zl1 Camaro so you at least have some different shapes to look at.
Also moster energy beat out Budweiser? Bring back Winston, NASCAR is beer and cigarettes.

Bringing this back from the dead.
I got invited to the Dover race in a couple of weeks. Free ticket in a suite. Never been to a Nascar race before. Is it worth going? I'm leaning towards yes because it is free so I think it would be fun to check it out.
Do I need to buy a camo hat to fit in?

Why is this even a question. Yes.
I would suspect a large lacking of camo hats in the suites.

i would say get a radio to listen in on the team radios would be nice. I saw a race at RIR a few years back. I mostly just enjoyed the pregame and post game drinking shenanigans. I wasn't all that interested in the race to be honest; i wouldn't go again. Free is worth checking out to see if you enjoy it though. in a suite may be a lot nicer/cooler than when i saw it in the grandstands.
I stopped watching when the car of tomorrow came out. I think they need to get back to production cars to save the fan base.

if its free, definitely. on TV i'm bored to tears, but in person its a different experience. do yourself a favor and walk down to the fences at least once when they're racing. its not going to replace my other favorite live motorsports but its worth doing at least once and the hardware is truly impressive even if only turning left isn't.
acceptable attire: cowboy or work boots, camo, Browning/Yeti/BassPro/Goodwrench logo anything, trucker hat, jeans, anything with flames on it, anything with the American flag on it, anything with horses on it, any wraparound sunglasses or aviators. accessorize with any shitty American beer in hand
kidding really. just don't wear khakis or tuck your shirt in. rednecks are harmless.

Read an article about a week ago about the death of NASCAR and thought it was a little silly, but then realized it's true.
The death of NASCAR is about the drivers. The money and fame in the sport (seen in IMSA too); is about grooming rich daddy's kid into a likeable, well spoken, and health addicted driver. The drivers used to be "the fanbase" where they made mistakes, they drank, they smoked, they took their race cars down the road. Big personalities with character and depth. Now we have 16 year old kids groomed with hundreds of thousands of dollars to be the best and not make a wrong step. Boring and who cares; that kid is probably a prick in real life beneath that fake smile.

I must have read the same article DJ did... I still quit watching because of the car of tomorrow.
