we get hammered with storms every 3-4 days in summer so its fine, but right now for instance, we're still 85 degrees down here and we've gone over a month with no rain so i'm running the irrigation every other day now. sucks but its saving our ass.

If you get a RainMachine, or something of that nature, as a controller it will only water according to the rainfall (i.e. if it predicts rain later in the day it will not run and/or if it predicts some rain later it will water less than normal). Pretty neat, saved a bunch at my mom's house in water.

Quote:so what's the skinny on APL after the latest hype-hype event? the "Pro" line ethos seems muddied up and innovation has been relatively stagnant and disjointed (keeping headphone jacks on the new MacBook, so brave! ). what is making buying a shiny new apple thing a strong proposition over keeping an old one?

This may be the time to consider either getting out of AAPL or at least hedging. That Macbook Pro unveil makes it clear that the people steering the ship don't know what the hell they're doing and are on borrowed time before the ship starts sinking. To be clear they're not gonna bankrupt or anything but profit and marketshare is going to continue to wane if they keep going like this.

The fact that they evidently wasted a bunch of money gearing up to enter the auto industry in some fashion, yet somehow couldn't deliver on their core computing competency says it all.

Maybe Apple will realize their error and do an emergency redesign of the Macbook Pros but I seriously doubt it. I also doubt they're going to deliver meaningful updates for the iMac, Mac Mini, or Mac Pro anytime soon. All together their PC division is only something like 10% of their revenue but their indifference and incompetence in that segment is a huge red flag. They should be embarrassed that their all-new machine has the same max RAM as the one they sold 4 years ago.

I've been on Macs for about 8-9 years now, and I think I'll be switching completely back to PC.

I am honestly scared about something happening to Jeff Bezos.

Seeing where AAPL is now has confirmed that paranoia.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. that's a really good point i forgot about. we have a RainBird system that has lots of custom scheduling options but no sensor. i guess as long as you can set the rainfall threshold so it doesn't run too much you would be set so that you don't burn up your water bill

all good points that make sense. i completely forgot about their weird auto industry ramp-up too, which also seems to be ambitious but rubbish.

what you said about 10% of their sales being computers aligns with other industry comments i've heard, which pretty much confirms that their more profit-driven structure is now so hungry for continued domain over the fast-cycling mobile/tablet market that they're neglecting the core computer features as a result...which points to more nefarious issues within the nature of the whole company

didn't look until too late. looks like market finished up? have to believe it wouldn't have done that if we're going to come crashing down tomorrow.

Prevailing theory is it dropped last week because of the Comey announcement and bounced back today because they cleared Hilary (again) yesterday. I think the market expects her to win and I'm pretty sure it's gonna take a giant shit if Trump pulls it out.

I tried to go deeper into bonds, but I couldn't get the website to final my rebalancing efforts. I'm going to take that as a sign and do nothing tomorrow. Hopefully I don't regret it.

Delayed - but it's actually not a sensor. It is connected through WiFi to the Weather Database, and then reacts accordingly to forecasts. You also get an app on your phone if you want to manually turn them on or off and set schedules/duration etc.

Ben says definitely buy time but to watch out for bottom as it might not be today. Had a little cash from a matured CD left as an emergency fund in our investment account during the home move...perfect time to move it around. I'll post up what his thoughts are when he gets to the office today. I wish I could throw more than a few grand at it but we gotta furnish this place now that we committed to family coming for the holidays. Long term gainz or beds for mom to sleep on??

Thanks for sharing his thoughts. It seemed the pre-trading may have leveled off a bit from where it was.
Gold would have been a decent buy in Oct. probably still some room on it in the next week as people spaz and drive it up

So yeah, he and I talked and the market has been actually flat and is up right now, defying all of the sentiment from last night. He thinks it could be due to shock and there is a chance they could still fall out, but for right now we're going to sit tight and watch for a buy opportunity. He said he was inundated this morning with emails / texts from clients who have money on the sidelines just waiting to see if one opens up. He mentioned that there was a 3% rally over the last few days that gave a bit of a cushion and that was expected to fall out, but so far it hasn't. Some sectors are down but others are actually up like biotech.
