I'm up 15% on SCTY since buying friday, but that damn thing's a roller coaster anyway. Could go down if Lyndon and Elon fart in the wrong direction.
Still a good time to get into BP IMHO if you're looking for something long term. Funny, there is an IMHO. Cannot recommend.
FWIW I'm surprised BAMXY is still so depressed. But I don't *really* know how brexit affects them. Apparently not well.

Someone tell me why I shouldn't sell just about everything on this blip. It's so damn tempting!

Come on guys. No-one knew this? We could have shorted this into the ground a week ago.

That would've been a hard one to short IMO. I see a lot of editorializing that investors didn't know Nintendo didn't make the game and that's the reason for the precipitous drop. If that is the case, no way to have known that. I think Nintendo saying Pokemon GO's income is already represented in Nintendo's reported revenues is more what would have burst the bubble.
Seeing how popular Pokemon GO was I'd like to think Nintendo will finally pull their head out of their ass on mobile but they are so colossally stubborn I wouldn't bet on it. If Nintendo actually put quality effort into mobile I think it could easily be a multi-billion dollar revenue stream (annually) for them.

I know a few people who work at Nintendo here in Seattle. The company is steeped in Japanese culture and conformity is rewarded. Based on everything I've heard, I wouldn't expect them to show long term success in transitioning to mobile. There will be other things like the original Wii and Pokemon Go, but I don't believe they'll experience significant, continuous growth. I'd actually thought about shorting it last week, but didn't pull my head out of my ass fast enough to do anything about it.

Not stock market but market related....I can't believe how low home loan rates are right now. As soon as Brexit happened I knew it would lock us into another longish period of low interest rates so it moved our home sale / purchase timeframe up significantly. Just locked in with Wells for 3.375% 30 year fixed with a HUD approved homeowner's course discount and over half of our closing costs paid by seller / lender. Unbelievable!

We just refinanced from a 7/1 and a HELOC to a single JUMBO 30 year fixed. We didn't get quite the rate you did, but our payment went up only ~8% to convert to a fixed, even though it's a JUMBO. There are no out of pocket costs and we'll get a check for $1200 at closing.
Amusingly, I had engaged our mortgage broker three months before Brexit to get rates. I took my sweet ass time because of all the baby stuff. I was just getting back to it and got updated quotes the week of Brexit. I didn't actually try to lock in a rate until close of business that Friday... which got us the sweet low rate the Monday morning after. Procrastination pays, ladies and gentlemen.

Well played, that is indeed a nice move over to fixed in jumbo territory. I think jumbo rates are generally higher than non jumbo? I can't remember what the LO said.
We were fortunate because real estate and taxes are relatively cheap in SC. Our new home is 3200 finished sq. ft., 5 bedrooms, 2 car garage, 10' ceilings, custom trim, gourmet kitchen, Energy Star certified, etc. etc. on a desirable lot and we didn't even come close to hitting jumbo territory (offer was < $300k )

hey, congrats btw! you guys gonna be in the Rock Hill area? we pass by there on 77 every time we head back to VA from GA...i'll have to bring you some BBQ or something.
before we settled in GA we looked hard at Aiken or N. Augusta in SC since its right across town but SC prices are like 30% lower for everything. in the end the commute was just a little more than we could handle though.

Not Rock Hill, we're actually going to be about 8 miles down the road from our old place across the border in Lancaster. Better schools, etc. We are not too far from 77 still, probably 25 minutes with stoplights. I will always welcome a gift of BBQ and to catch up buddy!!

Lancaster sounds like a great little town and you're still right there if you need to be in Charlotte for anything.

It is! Believe it or not we have visited a lot of the smaller towns in, around and a few hours away from the Charlotte metro area but Lancaster is not one of them! We are looking forward to heading down that way and exploring....we're still so close to "Charlotte" that it doesn't feel like we are moving far, but we are definitely further away from the hustle and bustle. We are also within a quick drive to downtown Waxhaw, NC which is an awesome historic town with neat shops, restaurants, etc. Big fan of this area

JUMBO is higher, which is part of the reason we did two mortgages originally - one at the $417k JUMBO limit and a home equity for the small remainder.
We were lucky enough to be able to put 20% down, so our payment isn't that much more than it was for our house back in NoVA. Our house definitely wasn't <$300k though. 8)

Don't get me wrong, there are still expensive ass homes here especially in Ballantyne and around the lake. But $750K-$1M+ gets you a freaking palace here and your own lake peninsula, or the best lot on the course in Ballantyne Country Club, Quail Hollow or Longview

What lender did you use? I keep knocking around the idea of a refi, but it looks like the break-even to cover points/closing costs with my lender is about 3 years, and I dont think I'll be in this house that much longer.

Fuck. I've said it before, but... well you guys know the drill. My 1800 sq ft, 3 br, no garage townhouse would sell for $440k.

My broker is licensed in WA, so I doubt you could use him, but it looks like they have presence in many states. They end up reselling the loans after like six months anyway - my current mortgage was through them and they sold it to Chase.
Are we comparing home values? Our 81 y/o, 2 bed, 1.5 bath, 1900 sqft (1300 finished) house would sell for $725k-$750k. Then again, we actually live in a city and not the suburbs. I'm pretty sure we couldn't afford to move.
