If I remember correctly you buy autos for your DDs - do you want another auto this time around? It's not in the same league as a CTS-V, but have you considered an SHO If I was going for a baller DD I would probably cross shop the CTS / MKZ / SHO / 300c SRT8.

I didn't just try to push the IS-F because my buddy was selling one - I was honestly surprised when I drove it. It's not as fun as my M3 but it is a whole generation newer and much nicer for 95% of how any responsible human would use it. My least favorite things were the skinny steering wheel and single cheap thing on the dash: a random digital clock I think was yanked off my nightstand in 1992. The rest of the tech was nice.

My parents had an '07 CTS - base and the comfy suspension. Even though you have the bigger V6 and sporty suspension, the F is worlds different and seems it'd be up your alley.

Personally I don't know I'd want the same chassis twice in a row (+250hp or not). Worth a drive at least - I didn't think it was a boring Toyota by any stretch.

I wouldn't recommend an e60 M5 to anyone, but I'd consider one for myself. :twisted:

I see you were thinking about a truck but decided the poor MPG was not worth it to you. What about dumping gas all together? For $40K you can buy a damn nice 2500 [insert brand here] diesel truck that is only a few years old. Heck I have a 2011 2500 SLT with all the good options only 11k on the clock for $40,500. Tuner and basic mods (keeping you legal) and you will have more then enough "fast" to worry about! 850lb/ft of torque is a computer plug away...and not even if you get a HO Cummins. Just a thought. Also, another thought...what about a 4 door wrangler? They are not fast and they are thirstyish but they are FUN and the mods and stuff for them goes on forever. Still haul people, pull a trailer if you need, anything. If you get a RAM or a Jeep remember that 2010 and newer have a 5 year 100k powertrain warranty that is a must for the price difference in most 09's to an 10. :thumbup:

I want to check out that ISF BJ for sure. My brother test drove one before he bought his S4 and he said the motor had tons of power but the suspension was a little soft for him. For the type of driving i do i honestly don't mind a softer ride (obviously, i am driving a couch with wheels right now). For that reason i also really like the Ctsv idea. need to look through these other posts when i get home

I like the idea of a truck + sports car at some point in the future. I do have a couple of friends with trucks right now so it's not super imperative to get one but if we ever move out of the townhouse into a single family home it will make a lot of sense and I will probably get an old 'Yota to beat around in like I used to have.

I mean that is such an awesome car and I have wanted one ever since they came out. I would be heavily leaning that way except for the note below...

I'm definitely digging the ATS 2.0T, and the decision will ultimately be after the wedding later this year so hopefully they drop in price a bit on the used market as the new model year start to get close to coming out. It would require some mod work to make it performance wise where I want it to be...but tons of potential in that motor and the luxury technology is vastly improved in that caddy over mine.

The CTS-V makes as much if not more sense than the GT500, since they now cost about the same. The CTS-V is going to have similar power potential, a vastly superior suspension and a vastly superior interior / amenities list. When I started to compare the two it doesn't really make sense to get a GT500 since we are talking about a daily driver. The argument BJ made about the similar chassis is actually valid and I had thought about that.

I had not thought about the SHO but it just doesn't really do it for me, nor does the Lincoln or the SRT8. Jaguar is not going to happen. Really the only BMW I would consider in that price point is the M3 if one can be had for that much. I LOVED my brother's E9x M3 before he traded it on the prestige S4. This is super nitpicky but the modability of that car leaves some to be desired...considering every single mod has a ridiculous price tag. I like the idea on the CTSV of a few minor mods and a tune and it's +eleventybillion torques more than it was before. With that said I don't feel like any other BMW would make sense for me other than the M3.

I checked out that link BJ and that was a great price too, but it's all good I'm not quite at the trigger pull stage yet. I definitely have the IS-F among the top contenders due to power, reliability, looks other than the rear end, reasonable fuel economy and the fact that I hardly ever see any of them...even around here. Again super nitpicky but do they have cooled/ventilated seats? I didn't think I saw that option. That sounds weird but honestly it's one of the things that is hard for me to live without now especially with how hot it gets down here in the summer. Avoiding swamp ass to me is worth paying a premium for especially with leather seats. Maybe the newer MYs have it? If the older IS-Fs don't I would be surprised; the older IS250s even have them.

Jeeps are super cool don't get me wrong they are just not my style and not really what I am looking for. A buddy has a C63 AMGs and I have had the chance to hoon around a little in it. It is stupid fast and has one of the most ridiculous stock exhaust notes of any car I have ever heard. But he is getting absolutely nickled and dimed at the dealership maintaining that thing, not to mention I don't think Merc has any kind of included maintenance plans.

So what we have is:
- 2008-2010 IS-F
- 2009-2010 CTS-V
- 2013 ATS 2.0T
- E9x M3

That is a good start! I am not going to lie, I also thought about a twin turbo ($7k installed) or supercharger ($6k installed) kit on my car, but I would have to want to commit to this vehicle for much longer.

Upgrading his CTS himself would cost a pretty penny to get to CTS-V level performance, and that's money that would be lost in depreciation. Might as well start with the CTS-V.

Personally I would go ATS or E90 M3 if given the choice.

Dumping mod money into this car doesn't really make sense and Gerald hit the nail on the head...it would take stupid amounts to make it anywhere close to as complete of a car as the CTSV

Don't get me wrong, I am not far off from my opinion on the ATS. I originally bought my CTS because of a base rental I had...the same thing might happen with this car. The stop and go trafffic isn't nearly as bad here as it was in DC so a MT w/ LSD and magneto suspension daily isn't out of the question. It would be less of a consideration if Pfadt didn't have a 450hp kit for the car...modding would definitely happen to the ATS. And honestly as awesome as 556hp would be anything over 400whp for me would be PLENTY in a daily haha

I'm not saying full blown CTS V upgrade status. Just some mods to get him the tech he wants and maybe a little more power. I just don't see how buying the same car with a bit more power/tech would be fun.

Get the CTS-V. Do you really think you're going to put those kind of mods into an ATS before it's out of warranty/you have traded it for something else? CTS-V also already has depreciation hit.
