THE FORUMS MUST BE LESS FUN! NO MORE FUN ALLOWED!

Seriously, what is going on here?

If people who know each other cant talk and joke with each other without 3/4 of the posts being deleted, then what is this place for?

If this is how you want things to be, then delete the forums, post information on the website by "moderators" only, and have an email address for questions.

If everyone is worried about someone coming onto the forums and being "offended" by people talking to each other about NOT them, and NOT topics regarding them, then you need to:
A. Get a clue.
B. Stop relying on a forum 'lounge' to do your recruiting for you.

And the "Lounge Rules" posted arent rules. Its "if we dont like it we delete it". I have no problem with reasonable guidelines (in fact I was one of the first to say we need them) but stop being lazy and write some real rules that dont dilute this place into a watered down version of every other shitty car forum on the internet.

EDIT:this was originally a response to a reply that was deleted concerning how the forums are worse now. I'm leaving it up as its still what I think of this new focus on the nature of the forum.

Really now? Do you remember this thread?

http://mmsports.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7146

Look at what Pete said, and look at what others said in agreement. He didn't like the "way things were" and many agreed with him.

We're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't, and frankly, I like the damned I am now. Try looking past the lounge; the events forum has boomed, and past the forum, the club is doing great. I've met and heard from many who appreciate our efforts and if you don't like it, thats a shame. My advice: Get off the computer and come to a track weekend with us. Or an autocross with us. Or a Ferrari visit or karting with us. Because its just the internet, and though you speak of the friendships you've made, you're forgetting the chance to make new ones. Take care.

Goodspeed I agree with that 100%, and recently I have gotten more active in the club (like working with Carguys for MM flagging opportunities) and thats exactly what I am talking about.
We have a great community, and a community with relationships that
we should be proud of.
But why do we need to micromanage this community and tell people who are otherwise friends what they can and cant say to each other. This isnt a typical car forum, this is a internet version of real life community and relationships. To take that and turn it into a situation where some people are artificially given the 'power' to tell people what they can and cant say is not a good way to foster the real life relationships.

if the concern is new people getting offended (I still cant understand this...but Ill take it for the moment) then there are much better solutions. Make a newbie forum, a Q&A/ FAQ forum, require authorization to come into the lounge, etc. These are off the top of my head, I know you guys are smart enough to solve this problem without crippling what we have here.

All though i don't know what was written, i trust what goodspeed did was what needed to be done. But to be fair, as moderators, we should take into context who is talking to who. given a situation where a new members immediately gets bashed by a current or alum, it will be deleted. But we are all friends here. However, vulgarity and just plan old inappropriate assholeyness will be dealt with no matter what. If you have something deleted and aren't given an explanation why just ask a mod and they will find out who and why it was done.

IMO the forum has gotten better with some stricter guidelines, i dunno if its true, but seems like participation in the forum has gone up on both alum and current students ends since the guidelines were set forth.

Im gonna move this to the site recommendations/complaints section....

Ban!

On-topic though, I'm very happy with the recent moderation efforts. This place is noticeably better for it
