sadly it gets worse. the insurance agent notified me that the title they have records for is deeming it salvaged from a theft in 1999. which is not what the carfax report said, nor my title, when i bought the car , but low and behold, when i check it now it's saying it is salvaged and could be a victim of title washing....

thankfully i still have my truck to transport myself, but i have an option for a rental car

Yeah, something seems fishy there. If they knew it was salvaged, they should have notified you. I'd cause a bit of a stink and see what happens. Depending on the value of the car, you might want to talk to a lawyer about threatening to sue. Most insurance companies will settle out of court instead of paying for the litigation, depending on how much you're talking about.

it's not much value, but it could come down to walking away with a few grand vs almost nothing at all. i checked with the DMV and they have a clear title for the VIN and as soon as my PIN comes in the mail :hakes fist at DMV:: i'm going to print out the records myself

i should get the full value of the vehicle if it's not recovered...

update:

they found the car in Silver Spring sans suspension and interior, we'll see what happens with the insurance company and the vehicle. i haven't seen the car yet but i'll be heading up there tomorrow to take some pictures

it was all black cloth from a '94 GS-R. i appreciate the idea for the wanted ad, but i don't even know what i'd do if i found those people. I've confided with the police before to capture stolen goods and without serial numbers or anything traceable they can't do a thing.

total damage from what i can tell after seeing the car should total the car. GS-R blades (sorry mike ), seats, suspension are all gone and the rear bumper is pretty banged up as well (not sure if that was from the tow or the thieves) and they put in front seats from what appears to be an older civic. they probably stripped the interior at one location, drove it to another location and then took the suspension components

yep, that seat is from a 92-95 civic.

Not really the hottest commodity, I swapped over all my grey interior from the current civic to black from the older one.

Honda fanboi's love us some black interior..!

oddly enough there was another white integra sitting next to it in the same lot, as well as a black civic hatch - all missing interiors and missing wheels or having mis-matched wheels

The car is an RS. I'll find out the buyback after all the paperwork is finished. This would actually be a great dedicated track-car candidate since there is a lack of ABS, lack of sunroof, axles replaced < 20k ago, driver's side wheel bearing replaced < 20k ago, water pump, tension pulley, and timing belt replaced <20k ago. I didn't find any rust on the car (there may be some behind the passenger-side rear quarter panel) and I did notice some cracks in the seam welds behind the driver's seat when i drilled the holes for the bolt-in roll bar (not huge, but could turn into a problem).

if you or anyone is interested in buying this thing then let me know and know that you'll need to have it towed or fix it on the spot where ever it lies since it's not driveable. I didn't look at the steering column, but that could also be damaged.
