Car audio - smoke um' if ya got um'
#1
I just thought it might be cool to ask the James Madison "not a car club" club to sound off about what kind of audio they rock in their whip. I know no one here will steal my shit so I'm neva scared. Working at Circuit City every day makes it a big part of my daily existence.

Amps - MTX Elite 601D - 600watt RMS Class D Monoblock 1200watts peak
[Image: h236TE801D-f.jpeg]

Subs - MTX Sledgehammer Dual 5500 10s

Oh yeah, I'm totally bored enough to look up the pictures...

The Daytona
Deck - OEM Chrysler CD/Tape

Speakers - Infinity Reference - Front - 6 1/2 Component set, Rear 5X7 coax

Amps - Infinity Basslink II 35XRMS built in 4 channel, powered sub
Subs - Infinity Basslink II 10in sub and passive radiator unit
[Image: 19733.jpg]

So yeah, I'm bored and just scored the Alpine for the van for just $50 so I figured I would start a thread to hear about all the systems in MM. I know DJ and Justin are Ballin', who else? And BTW, the mini has a Python security system and the Daytona has a 2-way Code Alarm system...don't be playin.

Stuff looks heavy and only makes you slow. This is all you need and when you are ready to lay down the black stuff just toss it out the window to loose the weight.

i do miss my 'system' in my civic

I had oem (2) 6.5 components, oem (2) 6x9's in the rear deck, and (2) 10" Sony Explodes with a 2-channel Pioneer 300watt amp and a DEH-P6400 Pioneer headunit. Not a very nice or blinging system, but man do i miss the bass and it did do its job for a great price. The integra has (4) 6.5's and the fronts are components, but man...i miss bass. I'd put a 12" sub and an amp in the teg if i didn't fear enough theft already. The only thing i have in there is a DEH-P3700 Pioneer headunit for MP3's and minor audio tweaking with an XM reciever ghetto rigged for variety since the power antenna doesn't work.

I'll have a nicer system some day.

Jeff knows what I have Wink

Sony 810U
[Image: l_cdxgt810uw.jpg]
I hate the look of it, and I dont really like Sony, but its the only deck with the features I wanted. Lots of little gripes about it though (no attenuator/mute, tiny buttons, tacky silver) but im happy with it.
Either a 4gb usb drive or my 8gb meizu music player is plugged in at all times, controllable (and charged) straight from the deck

Polk 650 6.5" coaxials.
Got them on clearance for $55, I had polks in my jeep and loved them. These have dissapointed me greatly. Treble so bright and overemphasized your dog will howl. Terrible bass. Embarrassingly terrible. Clips at normal listening levels, and this is being pushed by 45w RMS. Sounds ok when paired with a sub and heavily EQ modified.

MTX blue thunder 12" sub in a custom miata box. Free from a guy who had a miata and sold it.
Possibly the worst made box in history. Leaks air, rattles, sounds like shit. The sub is boomy, but cant really tell if its any good/bad because the box blows.

MTX thunder amp. Not sure the model, but it was free in the above deal. Pushes the sub at 120 and the mains at 45. The sub stopped working a couple weeks ago. Havent found any loose wiring, so I have no idea why.

Im considering upgrading the amp and sub.

(and mad propz to Jeff for helping me install all this gear)

Currently in the Teg..

Headunit: Pioneer DEH-P6500
Originally had the P6000 and when that took a dump Best Buy gave me the P6500 since i had the extended warranty. The only other radio I'd consider buying is an Alpine, but they look to cheap for me.
Front Speakers:
Boston Acoustics Components RS61 Best speakers I've ever owned been pushing 125 watts RMS to them for 5 years, the highs on these things are UNMATCHED, will never buy another speaker other then Boston from now on. Although there new S line seems kinda cheap, I'll stick with the Boston Pros.
Rear Speakers:
Kicker 6.5" never bothered to check the model number they came with the car. I usually don't run rear speakers, but they have decent mid-bass for me, running them off the stock deck. I use Pioneers SFEQ (basically removes the highs from the rear speakers, and the bass from the front) makes the sound stage really nice.
Amp:
Old school Sony Xplod Mobile ES. Says 800watts on it, but I'm pretty sure its 125wattsx4. Right now I've got it powering the 2 fronts and my Dual Voice Coil Sub which is wired at 2 ohms so I think thats getting about 350ish watts.
Sub:
Bazooka Tube RS 6.5" Dual Voice Coil. I found this in one of the cars at the dealership i worked for, they said I could have it. This thing has been running for me for 6 years. I used to have it powered on a JBL mono amp which has 500 watts going to it for 3 years. For Rap music this thing kinda sucks, it won't hit the Low Lows but the Mid Bass and Bass are amazing on this thing. For the size I really can't ask for much more. It fills the car with a nice bass sound, not over powered at all. Its super easy to take out for racing as well. I've always wanted a nice Balanced sound and this thing produces just that.

I'm pretty happy with my setup right now, most of it a acquired from cars at the dealership, they always wanted to put stock radio's and speakers back in the cars they bought. SO that meant we got to use/sell whatever we took out.
I have an Alarm with a motion sensor. So if you get within 2 feet of it, it's gonna chirp on ya. Can never be to careful with a teg they been #1 stolen car for a few years now.
I sleep 50 feet from my car with the window open every night, so if you plan on stealing it let me know i'll load up my pellet gun before you come. Or if i'm feeling nice you see me run out with a 4ft pry bar.

Damn... I didn't realize people my age still had systems. I sold mine when I got my current car because the Bose is actually fairly decent. Mine's bone stock but people always ask why kinda subs I have. The one I sold was... shit I don't even remember brands anymore. It was a 600w amp and 2 10" subs (Kicker?) that I got in high school. I had it for 10 years and moved it twice before finally selling.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

thats the benefit of driving new cars. My titan has a great stereo.
The bose on my miata blew ass, and with their integrated stuff you have to replace everything. I also wanted an aux in for mp3 and sat radio.
The sub and amp were free, so why not throw them in. I dont like boomy highschool bass though, so even if the sub hadnt stopped working Id probably switch over to 10" infinity anyway.

^^^^^agreed, kinda hard to find a new car that doesnt come with or have the option of a nice headunit and a 10in sub

Eclipse has....

Kenwood headunit KDC-x590
USB input, MP3, XM. I always have my XM radio on or my Zune plugged into it.
