One of my buddies has a wild XR. It's a Ford 2.3 bottom end with a Volvo DOHC head. He dyno'd it at a recent event at Carlisle, PA, and put down 530whp.

Problem is, the dyno driver would only take it to 6500rpm, and it's designed for 8500 RPM. And, they were smoking the Hoosers on the dyno :-). Of course now "everybody wonders" what it would have done if it would have had traction and hit redline.

Here's a dynoqueen video: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h14/mangostick/?action=view&current=pmsmokingdynoatcarlisle.flv">http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h14/m ... rlisle.flv</a><!-- m -->

The owner/builder is the big black dude beside the car.

I love it when he taps him on the shoulder as the smoke is pouring out the tires Smile

its cool enough to surprise people with a rare car, cooler yet to blow them all away with that kind of power.

so with driveline loss and another 2k rpm in store what do you think crank hp would be? 700+?

damn... do cars often smoke the tires on a dyno? I can't say that I've seen that before.

quite common w/ high HP engines. You should have seen all the straps they had on Heffner's viper that put down 1500hp @ ~6k (1500hp is the MAX it will read). They had I bet 20 straps on the rear and some 385 tires.

ive seen numerous dyno videos where guys are sitting on the rear ends of cars trying to weigh it down to get traction. I know i wouldnt wanna be one of em, but yea it happens
