All I'm saying is you should ENJOY motorsports, in some form or another, polishing your rimz isn'g a motorsports, it can be watching it on TV or reading about it in a magazine you liberal asshat.
Man....I can't stay away....I should join the debate team or something.
Anyways, what makes you think we don't enjoy motorsports? If you think all we do is polish our rims, believe me you're wrong. Without coming to meetings or generally being around current students I guess you can't fully experience what it is we do, but take my word for it, we're a lot better than you make us out to be (current students that is). Not long ago we all had a movie night where we watched laps of Le Mans etc. The bottom line is, us current students have a ton of fun, we all get along and respect each other, and we're all happy with the way the club is. I'm sorry if you feel otherwise

You still don't get it. I've NEVER SAID you have to goto the track and drive or aspire to be a racekar driver, all I'm saying is you should ENJOY motorsports, in some form or another, polishing your rimz isn'g a motorsports, it can be watching it on TV or reading about it in a magazine you liberal asshat.
you have the TOTAL wrong idea about the MM students. While you may not see us at every event or racing our cars we are deff. not what you are making us out to be.. NOT AT ALL

damnit... kaan, chad, please stop, you're accomplishing nothing.
me, from other thread Wrote:older people, please just stop posting until a current student makes a post such as blair's and THEN it can be addressed, but in a civil manner, please.
i just read through 4 pages of bullshit to see a bunch of people make asses of themselves, and say a bunch of uneducated crap that they'll likely regret down the line.
relax, and reread your posts before you make them. we're not enemies here; a single civil discussion shouldn't be too much to ask.
edit: didn't realize this was locked. oh well, i didn't add any fuel to the fire
it is obvious what you guys are not happy about... by restarting threads or renaming them you're not getting anything done but adding fuel to a fire.

I'd just like to make a suggestion to current/new students:
Go to track events. Go to at least one. Find the MM guys, they are easy to find, they all paddock in the same place. Introduce yourself, but during the day, don't expect much. During the day at the track, the guys that are driving are usually busy running around to classes, work on their cars, or get ready to hit up the grid.
Don't go and cry if you talk to someone during the day, and they don't come off as welcoming. They're usually in a different state of mind.
After their last session of the day, talk to them, and offer to help if they need anything.
No one bites, no one is going to hate you for no reason.

MM boxing match.. this BS makes me want to hit someone.. Alumni vs current student.. IM DOWN :o
The worst part is you guys are narrowing down a few current students and thinking that we are all like that. Your arguments and ours are both very valid. If we were all hanging out in person we would all have similar thoughts and agreements. Sure there are a few of us that arent hardcore into motorsports and never will be. Does that bother me? Not really.. Like i said before we all have a passion for the automobile and there is no doubt about it. If somone has a 64 impala with hydros and someone else with a rockcrawling jeep. Im down with all of them because we are all car people. There is no way to get everyone to conform to a strict motorsports only group. If thats what you all want then maybe a lot of people here shouldnt be here. I dont even think I should be a lot of the time. We are here to share our opinions to eachother not trash them for how they choose to act on their automobile choices. As I have seen it happen here many times before, we can help give other a better idea of what other options are out there and what we think or reccomend them to do.
We can turn ricers into racer, we can get someone to spend 500 bucks on suspension upgrades vs stereo upgrades. But this wont happen with everyone and thats life. If they dont want to.. they are still car people. I hang out with MM guys here at JMU all the time. We are car people, its out passion, we have fun together with whatever we do. ( thats really what MM should be about) The motorsports part will come with time.. I have no doubt

Well put. Thank you Blair.
Two feet.
I have not read every post thoroughly, in fact just stumbled along this with my evening "check the forum before leaving work" routine. So, here are my thoughts guys:
The club is going to evolve and change just as any successful company evolves to meet the needs of its customer. I'm willing to bet there will some cyclical pattern as well.
The OG's embrace the "motorsports" aspect, defined as racing, tracking, AutoX'ing, etc, and we can remain the foundation of this. When a student becomes interested, we reach out our hand, greet them, and show them the ropes. When it comes time to detail my XR after painting this spring, I intend on looking up the student (GTRLOVER?) that has a passion for it to guide me. If he werenÔÇÖt a member I would have never known him.
I think it is fine if other members prefer focusing on the countless other aspects of "cars." Looks, straight line performance, sideways performance, dyno performance, luxury, bling, or whatever turns their crank (pun!). I went ÔÇ£driving in the snowÔÇØ with some of the current students and had a great time. In fact, made me remember what that sort of fun was.
There's value in diversity and it seems that the "group" as a whole is discrediting it a bit. I understand the club was founded with one goal but if it refuses to adapt it will go extinct.
MM needs a leader thatÔÇÖs relevant to what the members need. He/She needs to be truly passionate about motorsports, and able to respect and involve a very diverse group of individuals, and gain energy from being in such an environment.

Blair, I have NEVER said NONE of the current students are not 'into' motorsports. I took a comment by a current officer and ran with it. The comment was to the effect that he didn't 'enjoy' motorsports, and therefore I wanted to know WHY he was an officer of a motorsports club in the first place.
OH and thanks for unbanning me, I really hope the person who did it steps forward and admits it so we can have a chat at the car show. This isn't a threat, but I do want to have a face to face chat with you.
white_2kgt Wrote:ScottyB Wrote:or people giving Lee a hard time because he wanted a fast car for the street instead of for the track and just wanted to talk about it.
That's all fine and good but you have to remember this is attached to JMU, so if someone in the 'club' is out 'street racing' it can give us all a bad name, I don't think you understand just how much work it took to get MM recognized as an actual 'club' b/c of this fact. We are just trying to protect the infant child that was MM.
Heh, Chad you were probably one of the people being dicks to me way back then. I never built my car to "street race" people, nor did I ever say that I was a street racer. You guys just all assumed that because I built a fast car that I could take on spirited drives on back roads and maybe eventually take to the strip or track that I would race people on the street.
It's no secret that the MM forums are very intimidating and uninviting to guests, but it's also no secret that once you meet MM members, both alumni and current students alike, you realize that it is a very cool club to be a part of. Motorsports is a very diverse interest, and in that sense there are tons of people that are into cars and car activities. It would make sense to welcome all of them. Hell, some of you guys even give people shit who are solely into drag racing... which is retarded and narrow-minded if you ask me.
I know it's tough to let go of the ideals that some of the older members founded the club on, but it's important to realize that all good things evolve and change with time. In this case, MM is still a positive outlet for people who are into racing or into cars in general. If I was a founder of a club like this, I would be proud of what it has become. I'm sure most of the OG's are, it just really doesn't come off that way when newcomers visit these boards.
I know also that a lot of you guys like to poke fun at each other and that's legit, but most newcomers don't realize that you're joking. That was one of the biggest reasons why I originally didn't want to post, but like Scott said, I came back and gave you guys a second chance... and became friends with most of you.
I'll step off of my soap box now =P

Hi, My name is Justin Gallamore, and i used to be a ricer. But now, thanks to Madison Motorsports, i have righted my wrongs, I now am happy in a fast car that has stock bumpers, and non ricey wheels and no neons in sight. I alos Participate in AutoX, but i am still able to hang out in parking lots with my other cool non street racing friends, and i also wash and wax my car, cause i like it clean. Thanks Madison Motorsports
sigh... i give up. nothing good will be coming from this thread. LOCKED. to those who care, i just deleted about 10 posts that were really inappropriate; the locking is justified.
if anyone starts another and goes off topic (calling people names, being offensive, etc), you will be banned.
