Better to learn a 5-speed w/ or w/o "short throw"?

So Sylvia is likely getting a new car in a week or so. She said she will be posting a thread (gasp!) on it if and when she gets it. Basically a 2001 PT Cruiser touring edition. Nice little car. It will also be her first 5-speed. I want to get her some goodies to go along with it if she gets it. I was thinking about Mopar's HURST short-throw. Is it harder/worse to learn on a ST shifter or is it all the same? Nick is gonna help me install a clutch stop on it for her (lord know it will help out quite a bit). I just wanna get her a little something for it and that was one of the few non-turbo parts for it. The alternative is the bling bling colorized floormats and the cargo tray. lol

I doubt it makes much of a difference. Her biggest issue will be the clutch, not the shifter.

without. beginners sometimes have trouble getting a feel for where the gears are.

what's a clutch stop?

its a bolt mounted to the clutch pedal that will stop downward (to the floorboard) travel just past the point at which the clutch disengages. So u push the pedal down as far as it goes...its out...but right as you start to let it out....it starts to engage.

I would say with. That way she will get used to it.

If it plans on ever going in there, might as well be when she is learning.

Its just the same like going to another car with a shorter throw, you car is different so it takes about 5 seconds to get acclimated to the new one, so might as well just do the short one in the first place.

What's the point? Why not have her learn to feel the clutch instead of having an aid?

just put in the short throw. Then since the short throw is somewhat harder she will be able to drive anything.
