you finally got that G35????
keith, i think what everyone is trying to say is "dont buy this car for 2k". i havent even clicked the link, but there are very few old civics that are worth 2k. and from what i read by other posts, its definitely not mint condition. i think we all seem so adamant about it because we were all you at one point. having the hindsight, we're all saying "it isnt worth your time and effort even if you want a project car because you'll get so sick of it". you'll fix one thing, then two things will break. you fix those two things, then four things will break.

I feel like im trying to prove something to the two of you, and I dont know what or why.
You'll have to excuse me if what I say comes off as arrogant or anything of the like, I dont mean it to be. Im a stubborn person when it gets down to it :?
Anyway, Im also toying with just not buying anything this summer and seeing where I stand next summer. It just kind of sucks. Ive been waiting a long time to own my own car. Part of me just wants to do it to spite my parents (dont ask). Its just kind of like one of those things where your told what not to do repeatedly, and it just wants to make you do it even more.
Obviously I have a lot of thinking to do

Yeah I talk about it but I never will go through with it until I have money saved up. The reason I ask is so I can get a feel for whats worth what for the future. Im going on no experience right now, so its good for me to see your opinions.
Sure would like to own a car though

Well, I can only heed the warning of "been there done that" by many of us in the club. Seems like a good idea now - however the Magic 8 ball things wont be so rosy a few months into the "project". Get something you can have fun with - not something that is going to require extensive work. If you cant ever really drive it then whats the point of having it?

I dunno, it'd be fun to have something to go out and throw rocks at once in a while

I'm sympathetic to Keith. He wants to start a project now like I was two years ago with that gungho attitude of, it doesn't matter cause I'll fix it. Sorry Keith, there's a but to this . . . You have planned out the motor swap, trans, time costs but what about the little things. Like what RJ and Mike said, the nickel and dime will rape you in the end. Look at my prelude or rex's supra. Honestly, I would buy a car in good condition that you can add to slowly. Buying a project now would end up costing you more money and most importantly, your passion for cars. When I was having daily problems with my prelude, i really began to hate it. It stopped being fun. Now that I'm out of debt with a reliable car that's fun to drive, i'm all about cars again. Keep that in mind. If I could have done things all over again, I would have bought a relatively nice car and done suspension/brake mods then when I knew the car better, swapped engines and truly appreciate the extra power. I bought my lude with a blown engine so i never really appreciated the h22a until i got a slow ass mr2

Keith I'd say your project idea is pretty good, I'd just recommend that you get a car that is not falling apart at the time of purchase. You might have to pay maybe $1k more but you'll end up having a much better experience. At the very least make sure the engine and tranny are fine for daily work and that it doesn't have any rust. Rusted suspension and body can turn you into a bitter, hateful man, just ask Chan
