Max Samoylov intro: Miata + ae86
#1
What's up my guys, I'm Max. I'm a computer science major just transferred from blue ridge community college. Lived around Harrisonburg for like 13 years now. Currently have 2 cars I bought, my Miata and my ae86. As you can tell, I'm into those lighter weight rwd Japanese cars.

Miata is a 1990 with like 200k miles on it. Didn't run or drive when I bought it, changed fuel pump to start it then changed clutch to get it driving. It's got some stiffer springs but otherwise all stock. Has a vlsd!
Also bought the ae86 as not starting. Changed rotted fuel lines and got it driving. It's got a s13 ka24de swapped in from previous owner. I mainly put in the two front seats, got those wheels, front bumper, and other stuff. Has a welded diff, still the weak sr5 rear end. Rides on bumpstops. Gutted interior from prev owner. No hvac system or power steering. Not pleasant to drive but it's cool I guess.
I used to drive a right hand drive bmw e39 540i wagon.

Autocrossed my Miata several times, took it once to a Shenandoah drift event a while ago. Also took my ae86 to a drift event once. I want to get more seat time with grip and drifting, but first kinda want to condense into just 1 good car instead of 2 mediocre ones haha.

Pic of my Miata drifting. No pics of my ae86 unfortunately.

For every Mustang that joins, a Miata must come back to the group to retain balance.

Welcome! You'll be in good company here, seems a new Miata gets bought or sold every other week. L Looks like you have fun with the cars as they were designed to do, can't wait to see the little yota in person, I always liked those cheese wedges.

Is this the one I've seen at Verona a few times?

Thanks! Yeah it's the first car I've autocrossed, one or maybe two times in Verona. My mom used it for mail delivery for some time but then I drove it. It's a 2000 but was imported from the UK somehow..

Jealous of all three cars, but especially that 5series! Is the plan to keep the AE86 and build the Miata, vice versa, or sell both and get something else?

I wish I knew what I wanted haha. But I've been thinking either build the Miata, find a Miata already modded, or sell both and switch platforms to maybe 240sx, salvaged brz, e36, or other similar rwd cars and build them. AE86 probably has too much tofu tax to justify keeping or building. I'd like something that I can daily, track, and even go drifting with some slight setup changes. But I've still got some time to try and make up my mind.

If that’s what you want, I’d say either the BRZ or the E36. Did you get the salvage idea from “B is for Build” by chance?

Yeah I suppose I did actually. I've watched him for a long time actually but just recently realized that I could just do that same as well. But copart fees are kind of pricey. If I got a wrecked BRZ for $3,000, I'd have to pay like 750 to copart! about $350 for a uhaul towing it back. loosely guessing 1500 to 2000 to repair a front end collision, depends if I can find a inexpensive source for parts. Not bad for a newish car but still pricey. Not a lot of money left for mods. But then I don't have to spend 1500 for just a hardtop and rollbar on a Miata! And E36 is a practical choice but I just don't like them as much.

There might be a few people in the club that could help you with auction cars, first that comes to mind is Alex Peery but I’m sure there are others, plus people with trailers/trucks to help out if you’re serious about it! I feel that on the e36, I’m guessing they both have the same power/weight ratios. And that’s before you turbo the BRZ...[emoji102]

No love for the 350z? You can find manual trans 03-05 for 4-6g.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Yeah 350z would be a solid option too, but they just don't really appeal to me either for some reason.
