JPVA Wrote:I'm guessing you got the brakes reassembled? How did that go?Oh man I gotta update this thread. Background for those who don't know: I went to replace brake and rotors cause I was washing the car and realized I could see through one of the rotors and couldn't see the pads on either side. I was actually gonna online order it because advance wouldn't price match me 50% but then my boss looked at them and said "oh well lemme see what I can do" because he seriously didn't want me to even leave the lot with the condition they were in. He started to change them for me behind the store while I was clocked in (what a champ!) But then comes back inside to tell me my calipers were fucked. Eventually we found some, I spent way too much money, he wasn't able to finish the car and I was now carless the day before turducken. I love wrenching with a time crunch. I really do. So fast forward to here and joaquin came to give me a ride home but we also attempted to put them on in complete darkness. It was pointless. And now to follow up next morning and answer Joaquin: It was alright. I had to break the caliper in half. Put one half over the rotors. Then put that stupid little clip into it. Then slide the pads into the space between the clips. Then lock it all in place with the other half of the caliper. Then my coworker came to bleed the brakes but he let air back in the system. I should have told him to pump the brakes and let me work the bleeder valve. So then i had to get a ride back home to get the Jack stands and jack to bleed them again more efficiently. Got the rear bled but so much air got in the front now needed bleeding too but I had enough pressure so I said fuck it and drove on the rears basically. I needed to leave for turducken and didn't wanna waste more time. On Sunday Jason lineberg used his bleeder and bled the fronts in like 5 mins and full brake pressure was finally back. Thanks for the help that night. I was too pissed to focus on anything. Next update coming up: The Mosquito Exterminator Saga and Will The Revolving Door Spin Yet Again?

This car developed a gnarly exhaust leak over the winter that made it sound like a truck. I had zero desire to even look underneath the car. Finally got under there this past Saturday and two of the bolts had just fallen out lol. Bought two more, tightened it all up and sounds like a car again.
Still burns oil Has an oil leak someplace on the passenger side of the engine that started after doing the valve seals. It really only runs on one quart of oil, anyway, in other news... James and I went over 33 the other day. I took a picture I liked. Here is that picture. They're both Mazda.

I'm impressed you drove it over the mountain. Probably looked like James Bond laying an oil slick all the way up.

The ignition coils died like 2 weeks ago. New ones went in same day, smooth again, Yay.
The sway bar link pooped the bed while we were out last night. I think that's the first time I've ever witnessed hearing it actually break. Frightening. New one went in this afternoon while I was visiting the burg. Shout out to Chase and Chris, they helped it all get along smooth and quick. No pics unfortunately, but here's this because no post is complete without pics!

Well folks, there is a hole in my heart, the pieces have been scattered and I can't put it all back together.
I went up to nova/dc this weekend for Halloween shenanigans and decided to leave directly after work at 9:30pm Friday. So about 10 exits away from fredvegas it started to hesitate and gently misfire on inclines. Initially I ignored thinking it was the AC compressor kicking in and out. Until I turned the AC off and it kept happening. I pulled off to a gas station and I decide to check the oil cap and it's very milkshakey. This is new. I put oil in it all the time and this is the first time this has happened. I call my buddy up in Nova and warn him he's gonna need to pick me up in case I need to leave this at a random exit. ONWARD. The hesitating gets worse on inclines and if I do anything over 70 it will buck and won't accelerate. Check engine light is now on. Eventually I figure out if I ease off the gas on inclines and stay at 65mph she groovy. So I nurse it the whole way in to Fairfax. Thank goodness I was not expecting to make it there that night. I park it and ignore it all weekend. Fast forward to Sunday and I got the cel scanned and it's a misfire on cyl 3. Well I left my phone charger in Arlington, so we decided we'll take my car and see how it does in a place that was relatively local so if it's gonna leave me stranded I'm not on the edge of 495/95 traffic heading to Richmond. The hesitation is still there but as stated earlier I figured out how to get it to smooth out (sort of). We made it out and back. So now I've decided it's time to head home, we'll get dinner, drop my friend off and then go home. Well on the way to dinner it starts to overheat. Lovely. All the coolant gone. I had a some in the trunk which isn't a usual thing so woo! So at this point I've concluded, she's now burning her coolant + oil, it won't drive over 60mph and even backing off the gas going uphill its still bucking. I really had no desire to attempt the two hour drive to rva. So I decided this was it. This was the end. She's going to Carmax. *envision me breaking down into tears here* Shout-out to my friend Jake Lind he was super helpful driving me around and helping me brainstorm, even offered to drive behind me down to rva if we wanted to attempt getting it here. The drive to Carmax was definitely the sketchiest, it was busy out and I was trying to keep the speed up around 70 and it was just shuddering the whole way. Did not want to do it. This car did really good and I was lucky to have gotten as much time out of it as possible. I'm gonna miss the heck out of it. Carrying engines, mild snow ventures, hauling my friends and I all over hburg, hauling all of my belongings in one trip literally every square inch of real estate inside that car was put to use, hauling 4 22inch rims, struggling to do a proper run over 33, watching Jason Lindberg do the valve seals, people's reactions when they saw the cold start burn lol, the exhaust rattle that I fixed and came right the fuck back, and so much much more. It's been a great 18 months and I got some really fun memories in it. I'm sad. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I wasn't ready for it to be all over yet. The last picture that I got. Byyyeeee

Jake Wrote:Don't know yet. But while Jake and I were waiting on my dad we decided to play a game and see if we could find a running car around $500 in 2 hours lol. We went to go check out a Volvo 850 listed at $900. LOL. "old lady driven, great mechanical shape, lots of front end work, poor interior. " Since the protege I learned the rule of cold starting a car so I said let's get there early (he was meeting us there) so we can check it out without the owner. We were there 10 mins early and homeboy still beat us to the car and what was he doing? Turning it on with a massive plume of smoke behind it Hahahaha. So instead of pulling in to the lot, we made a u turn and followed him to see what he was doing and he drove it around the block 3 times to warm it up and burn off the oil/coolant haha. He disappeared at some point so we just pulled into the lot and waited. He pulls up and the first thing I said to him was "Oh man its already running? I thought the car was located here, I wanted to cold start it" "oh oh I just wanted to break the rust off the rotors for you" Hahaha. We decided to drive it anyway and uhh help "clean out the valves". It was so bad lol. Like it did good for first gear, plenty of torque, then it would kick into second with a stutter and then stop. Like it held the revs at 4k in second gear and was backfiring and the coolant light came on. I told him it was spitting black smoke when I floored it and apparently "the turbo seals just needs to burn off carbon from sitting so many weeks". There was milkshake on the coolant cap. I got pieces of it on my snapchat story lol.
