The only Ford consumer purchase plans that are actually worth using are the A & Z plans. Those are only given to manufacturing plant employees and their immediate family to use as well as those with corporate positions within the company. A/Z plan allows you to purchase the vehicle for hundreds less than dealer invoice. The other plans are pretty much worthless.

You can usually get a good deal on almost any new Ford using the Costco new car buyers program or a similar program that American Express offers to its members.

And yes, I do have X-plan through my employer.

well, X plan is supposed to be .4% under invoice, which would be $700 less than edmunds TMV (which is also about where the costco plans are)
I say supposedly, but I looked up the xplan pricing for the focus just now on ford's official partner site and pricing is...right where edmunds TMV is. BFD. Nevermind, Ford. Perhaps since the car is new and selling well they havent extended the normal xplan discount.
Probably not worth bothering for a PIN then. From what Ive read I can just buy a share of Ford stock and contact investor relations for a PIN anyway if it turns out none of the dealerships in the area will hit the xplan price

yeah, looking at the focus 5 door. its an impressive vehicle for being a compact. hell, I thought about buying one too since Im shopping for a new DD.

We loved Caseys focus for what it was, it was the previous generation (08), and the interior held up well for the 40k we put on it, just some paint missing on the commonly used steering wheel controls. Biggest complaint was the shitty/loud pirellis that came on the car, once they were off and replaced with the Falkens, it was surprisingly quiet for a Focus. Although im sure they have upped their game even more on this new body style. Highly recommend it, especially since the upgrades of the newest generation, if your looking for an economy car with some nice features.

I hear the Cruze is a good car when loaded up as well though, maybe take a look over there.

other than some really cool slo-mo, computer generated fly-around ads on their site, what's so great about this Focus? I didn't see anything particularly exciting, maybe I missed something.

there is never anything exciting about a sub $20k compact car.

anne wants an inexpensive compact 5 door hatch with good mpgeez (and buttwarmers)
that leaves
mazda3
focus
kia somethingorother
impreza

mazda3 gets bad mileage and is the most expensive.
2012 impreza wont be out until november
havent looked at the kia yet but not holding out for that one

I drove the new focus and it is a very well put together car. handles well, brakes well. nice seats and controls. (all the steering wheel buttons look like you can pilot the space shuttle without removing your hands from the wheel though)
160hp with dual clutch i thought would have some punch but it doesnt. surprisingly. maybe something to do with mpg tuning. feels like 140hp with a slushbox.
dual clutch appears to have no real benefit, since it shifts slow and doesnt have paddle shifters. just seems like a real expensive potential repair bill after the warranty expires.

overall its a good car though. iwould drive one

Somehow, I am surprised that you're considering a Ford. I have no idea why.

If you're interested in an ass-ugly toyota Matrix, I could see what I could do (although we don't get discounts worth a shit as dealer employees). And there is nothing impressive about a Matrix. At all. Just like every other Toyota in the line-up.

Have you seen the other cars in it's segment? Not a whole lot of decent cars in it. I'd take a Focus over most of the cars in it. Maybe not over an Impreza, but the Focus has improved a lot in a lot of different ways, including build quality and styling.

not as surprised as I am! Im not excited about supporting auto unions, but at least Ford didnt take bailout money. And I have to hand it to Ford, they brought their A game with this car.

not too interested in the matrix but I may give you a ring when the new FT-86 / FR-S toyobaru coupe thingy comes out Smile

I'm actually driving around in a rental Ford Focus station wagon. I have to say I like the styling and some of the standard electronic features (mykey, etc). Engine power is naturally lacking unless you get a bigger engine but mileage has been sitting around 26-27 per gallon on long drives. My only complaint is that the stock tires on factory steelies have really soft tire walls and make for very unsettling steering in off camber turns.
