I've towed an aluminum trailer full of brush and wood (prolly about 3,000lbs total) and it struggled. Shit it's all a cherokee can do to get up to the speed limit on the interestate and stay there.
It did always have a getting out of its own way problem....but when it had tiny tires it would smoke them bitches all day long.

So, slightly-over two year update, better late than never, right?
This thing is still going strong, and hopefully will for at least a few more years to come. I've had but three issues with the Jeep since buying it in Oct. 2010 - a bad A/C compressor, a faulty emissions system valve-thingus, and lastly, an A/C condenser fan that shit the bed and caused me to overheat once. Other than that, its been ♪like a rock♪ (sorry, GM, it works better here). As simple and reliable as a wood burning stove - still highly regarded in my pantheon of automotive purchases.
A quick timeline of my ownership - shortly after buying it I had the trans/transfer case fluids changed, O2's replaced (threw codes), and a few other small things. Regular oil changes and tire rotations tided it over until this month, when I left it with Jeff at his family's dealership in Woodstock to give it some proper lovin'. New brakes, fluids, diffs serviced, misc. parts here and there - basically a full checkup and overhaul where needed. Thanks again Jeff
Other than the aftermarket audio (MP3 headunit, Polk Momo speakers - Jeff figured out what they were, sound good) that came with it, I've installed Autopal E-code headlight housings and a real headlight harness capable to flowing actual current (the two together providing vastly more than the approximate 2 matchsticks worth of light in OEM spec).
(Not my pic, but you get the idea)
I had thought about doing a lift and all that, but 99% of the time this is on the street, so I decided to round it out with a few touches here and there instead of blowing cash on a lift I don't need. The stock steelies were looking very tired, so a quick CL search led me to a cheap set of much better steelies off of a Wrangler, together with updated, better looking center caps. Unbeknownst to me until I got there, but I happened to buy them from the same dealer in MD (off the beltway in Kensington) that I bought the Jeep from. I paired them with a set of General Grabber AT2's - BRING ME SNOW DAMMIT. I want to tackle another snowpocalypse with non-Sears tires and while actually being able to see the road ahead.
Overall I think I've managed to build myself a bombproof little DD here. The back is loaded up with emergency supplies (shovel, survival kit, jumper cables, sleeping bag, flashlights, etc), because, you know, zombies. Went out and snapped a few pics today (my brother photobombing in the passenger seat).
Thats all for now folks. If we get some good snow this season I'll be sure to snap some pics of whatever wacky, zany situation I can get into in the WalMart parking lot. Bring back the MIHS Ice Fishing league perhaps?
oooo, lemme know how you like the Generals. they remind me a good deal of the BFG all-terrain T/A's but at a pretty awesome price.

Will do - I'll put them through some wintery paces and report back. I was actually set on getting some BFG a/t's, but comparing reviews on TireRack at least, the General's seem to be 95% of what the BFG's are at half the price.
I've heard good things on JF forum about the Generals- great looking XJ!

Sylvia has generals... she expects the world out of tires so she is a little upset they are cupped. BUT thats not the tires fault. she was driving around on 3 blown stock shocks before she lifted the jeep. that being said, she has 40k miles on the damn tires, 2 trips to RC wheeling, and overall abuse. they are OK in the rain, but not great... mud, dirt, rocks they are stellar... snow, you wont even notice and you'll be out of 4wd during most of the DC snows i'm sure.
one thing your OCD needs to key in on is... check your tire pressures wheely and it will really help the life of the tire. that goes for all AT tires though.

Agreed- had Pro Comp MT's and they would lose around 8-12 pounds every three weeks, it was very noticeable as well.

Well, first winter weather report is in - these things will absolutely NOT ALLOW ice fishing funsies in the parking lot pictured above  . They're sticking like glue. Granted, only an inch or so of accumulation and the ground probably wasn't that cold anyway. But I'm impressed.
lol you'll do things in 2wd with those tires that will make you so confident you'll get stuck... and then you just drop it into 4 low
