Cars You Like But Know You Shouldn't

Have also seen several of these rolling around Ballantyne and they are still on the top of my short list of awesome rich guy cars.

David's girlfriend Meg has one in black. Nice car and she frequently gets ~40 mpg highway. Her main complaint is that she can't see out the back. But... she's a bit shorter than you are.

Don't they have CVT's in them as well? That would take some getting used to, but the in-town MPG's those cars can pull down are crazy.

Yea hers has a CVT- definitely a little weird... Very nice car though- and the mileage is just incredible.

I hate CVT's but hers is pretty good. The transition to gas from electric is very smooth as well.

Our hybrid Camry has the CVT, there is no raising rpm as you accelerate which just sounds weird. In fact, as you slowly lift to decrease your rate of acceleration the RPMs start to drop, even though you're still speeding up, it makes you feel like you need to step on it again. Under lighter acceleration I find myself waiting for it to shift.

We definitely wanted the Fusion but the deal on the Camry was hard to beat. Camry electric to gas transition is very noticeable, I'd like to drive the Fusion to compare.

The CVT definitely helps acceleration though, no doubt it would be even more of a slug without it.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

Samantha has a non-hybrid with CVT, 2010 Altima. It takes a little bit of getting used too but after a few weeks it's just like driving any other automatic really. It gets confused sometimes if you give it too much throttle, let off, then get back on it, but other than that it does fine. Never can get used to holding it to the floor and it going to 6k and just staying there though. She consistently see's 27 to 28mpg in the city and 30+ on the interstate. It also has the manumatic option where it "simulates" gears. It does a decent job but rarely if ever gets used.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
