Hi all,
My name is Tyler McAvoy, I'm an english major, a sophomore and I know it may be redundant to say, but I like cars :p.
I currently drive a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant V6 with no mods whatsoever, and I also am the owner of a 1986 Dodge Charger Shelby 2.2l with turbo. Its definately a project car, but its been fun to at least pretend to work on anyways.
I have a class with Jake and he mentioned y'all might be able to help me in fixing it up.
Thanks,
Tyler M.

Sweet. You gotta get that charger in shape for some auto-x action.

this is as it sits right now.
I know, I know it needs to be garage kept, and it mostly has been, but my grandpa for some reason took it out of the shop and has refused to put it back in.
. 46,xxx miles on the engine.
In the background is also my old 2 door explorer, my very first car. Its pretty much dead, probably needs a new catalytic converter, spark plugs etc. I loved that thing tho.
My gramps loves cars, and has hoarded them over the years. Here's an old Plymouth Barracuda from the 70's thats been in the shop for as long as i remember.
(sorry for the crappy photo, not much space in there to take a good one)
Annddd here's my DD.
2001 Mitsubshi Galant V6 automatic. Not much to look at, but probably the most reliable car I've ever had. I haven't really modded it much at all, my mechanic skill is meager and I don't wanna mess it up too much.
K&N filters and a Pioneer premier complete sound system.

I know I asked you, but what exactly is wrong with the Charger? That'd be a sweet car to have around campus...

Welll, it needs a new battery for sure, probably a timing belt, and god knows what else haha.
I'm no mechanic, but I'm sure its suffering from some rust too, those L-bodies are notorious for it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Just a quick update. I've decided to ditch the charger, sold my galant and am currently driving around a big red SUV that gets around 14.8 mpg. Buuuut, tomorrow I'm going up to vienna to test drive an old MKIII supra with less then 75k on it. Automatic, but the mileage makes it sexy.

Sweet, I live in Vienna and used to have a MKIII. Depending on the time I might be able to help look at it.
Oh, ask many questions about the head gasket. Then look at the oil cap and drive it for a long time. Then ask some more.
Don't buy any MkIII that's not a 90/91.
Then, 1JZ.

7M Powah.
whats wrong with an 89? From what I've read, 89.5's are basically the same as 90's and 91,and they keep the trip computer.
@Goodspeed
That'd be awesome. I'm still a little uneasy about it due to the HG problems, but I don't know. I got some thinking to do.

Something something subframe in a 90 something 1JZ compatible something blah something. I just remember 90/91. 89.5 might work too, but it's not like MKIII's are expensive or something.

Yes, the 89 is similar to the 90/91, however the exterior styling is a little different and the front crossmember is not the same (although they are interchangable). Buying a mkIII is like giving up on handling. It's great for boulevard cruising, and can make cool sounds despite still being relatively slow, and will definitely make you more mechanically capable in time. (Why would you buy an automatic; the R154 manual trans is very stout and at least lets you have a little fun with your land yacht)
As Goody said, be very careful about getting one with a BHG.

OOOOOR just plan on swapping in the 1JZ and buy one on the cheap with a BHG.

Where do all these e36 m3s pop up from? I saw a black 4 door m for the first time around campus today with a giant sorority sticker on the back window. Congrats on the purchase though that's sick
