I don't like the huge fender flares on the RX-8, the lines are just wierd.

I think they're hot. Power issues aside (though you would hope that a car that looks that good would match looks and performance), the styling does it for me.

I know.. but the RX8 makes good use of the steering wheel, unlike your "big boys"

A lotta good that does it when it gets walked in every straight. Wink

That thing needs more rotor-shaped things on it. I'm surprised it doesn't have rotor shaped wheels. OK Mazda, it's a rotary engine, WE GET IT!

so I'm sorry, but from those time slips, are we saying a stock RX8 will run a 14.6 quarter mile? And it needs more power? Near 200HP to the wheels kinda seems healthy to me. I know it's missing some torque, so HP comparisons kind of fail, but I'd like to know what the quarter mile times of some other, new <$30k sporty cars are. The 'net is failing me on accurate #'s, and I don't get all those car mags, I guess that'd be the best place to find them.

All I know, is that sure beats a 325. By a lot. And I think it beats most of the front drivers? RSX-S, TSX, Eclipse, Celica? I guess that turblo Neon would take it. I assume the STI and Evo beat it, although they're pushing the 30k budget. Others I can think of, that probably beat it and cost about the same are the WRX, 350Z/G35 and Mustang GT. Any others? Anyone got reliable times on those cars? It is my impression that they don't win by a whole lot.

Obviously I'm trying to defend the RX8 here, I wasn't under the impression that it was lacking a lot of power compared to the "big boys" in it's class. Clearly it's not the most power you can buy for <$30k, but that's not what the car's all about. In comparisons to the 350Z (seems to be what it's put up against often), the 350Z gets the edge in power, but the RX-8 often comes out as the better drivers' car.

When did an RX8 cut anything close to a 14.4 stock?

I stand corrected. 14.32. He says he's bone stock. Apparently he has broken his transmission, maybe he's powershifting or something.
