Whoops, didn't realize Jack snuck in an unlock comment in the jailbreak thread.

Anywho, 1.1.4 is out today...and I don't think it's anything significant - just bug fixes.

2.0 (release date of June) is gonna be baller as shit:

- SDK officially released (beta now) - same SDK that Apple developers use, so all iPhone functionalities will be available
- VOIP over WiFi (but not EDGE, for obvious reasons)
- Enterprise stuff (push email, push calender, push contacts)
- Active Sync and Microsoft Exchange support
- Cisco IPsec VPN
- Remote wipe
- Mass email move and delete
- Viewing Powerpoints (currently only does PDF, Word, Excel)

Basics on SDK: For apps sold on iTunes, developers get 70% of sales profits. To publish apps (not sure what publish means? iTunes or elsewhere?), it's a $99 developer fee. Also, it'll only be available on a Mac, and will come with an iPhone emulator, so you won't have to deploy to test (I wonder if they're actually going to simulate multitouch in the emulator...don't see how it's possible without a touchpad).

I haven't read this thing yet, but here's a play-by-play: http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/06/live ... onference/

I don't understand about 75% of what you just said, so I probably wouldn't use half of the benefits of that new update. I need to get back into the computer game!

It just means that Apple is handling that bizness.

A lot of people (rightfully) said that the iPhone wasn't good for enterprise/business use. When it's compatible with Exchange and can do all the pushing (email, calender, contacts), then it's going to hit an entirely different target market. It's pretty huge.

As for the SDK stuff, I think we're gonna see some cool ass shit come out after June.

There's some cool ass shit out there now.
1. The only reason there won't be VoIP is because Apple can't let app developers compete for airtime with telcos. With 3G around the corner, VoIP should be available. Winner: Jailbreak.
2. Exchange stuff is excellent. Straight to the server with no middleman. Can't wait to see how that does on battery life...
3. Publishing apps: All apps go through itunes, and must be approved by Apple before being released.
4. Apps are delivered wirelessly much like the songs delivered via iTunes button.
5. 3D games. Yes.
6. $99 dev fee is for ADC membership. Standard. Just like MSDN.

I think it's what everyone expected. The only shocker to me was the 3D games and how good they look on that thing. I can't wait to see what games show up for it. I imagine I'll keep my phone unlocked even after this stuff starts coming out.
