Jeff? I know you have a bunch of ICE stuff laying around.
Any advice also? I'm not looking to do any more crazy wiring in my car...putting a head unit into a 2001 IS3 was enough of a pain. Ideally I'd like to just be able to wire it in line to my two 4.5" stock woofers in the rear deck without running power leads to the battery, etc. Does this even exist?
Let me know if you guys have anything, and any advice! I'd like a little more oontz but without the pain of wiring up a sub / box.

Bazooka tubes still exist after 1995? :dunno:

Yeah man it's ideal for me, because it should fit on this little hump I have on the back of the trunk near the seats and leave me plenty of trunk space.

Nothin huh?? Jeff?? I haven't found much on CL and the ones on Ebay are like 125-150...which is how much I could probably pick up a nicer 10 or 12 + box for.

try the audiobahn basstubes, i have the 10 in tube, 4ohm dual voice coil, 300watt RMS i love it, IMO sounds way better than the bazooka tubes. Picked mine up for 180 in the scratch and dent at crutchfield, but i dont think they deal with audiobahn anymore.
Bass Tubes suck...don't waste your time with them. What car is this for? PM me.

You own a hatch...and you have a 10in basstube. That's the only application they might even kinda be ok for. Or a single cab truck. Anyway you don't really listen to anything with any real bass. In a closed trunk car they are worthless. A dumbass got one at CC the other day and we put it in a Toyota car. He came back and told us it was installed wrong because he couldn't hear the bass...we needed to turn it around. I told him that the speaker (I'm not even gonna call it a sub) is supposed to face the rear of the trunk for the most effect. After he told me that was causing all the sound to "go out the back" I told him he clearly didn't understand the principle at work and that basstubes are worthless.

I actually read your first post. There is no way to wire in a sub without a power amplifier. If you want any real bass you need some sort of box. For that crazy electronic beats you kids are listening to these days I would say 10s. At least a pair. And a real amp...at least 400w RMS. I'd say two kicker comps in a sealed box with a 400.1 Kicker amp would get the blood flowing.

I've had a 6 1/2" Dual Voice Coil Bazooka Tube for 6 years, all in small Honda's. I could not be happier with it, granted it will not give u a big bump in your trunk. But it will provide a nice balanced mid-bass sound to even out your 6 1/2" rears or components.
I listen to classic rock mostly, sometimes some trance/techno. If you listen to alot of hip hop or want your neighbors to hear your music then a Tube isn't that way to go. For a nice balanced sound in a small car/hatch I would recommend a tube. Just get a nice amp to power it
I don't want a lot of bass in this car. I listen to mostly trance and hip hop, and I'm looking for a little more high end to mid range bass. If anything, I would put 1 or 2 8" subs in, nothing bigger. I've had loud systems and I'm over that. I'm not thuggin' in high school anymore and am not trying to rattle the block, I just want to enjoy the basslines of the stuff I'm listening to.
I really don't want to have to wire up an amp and I REALLY don't want to have to pull my head unit out again because it is a complete pain in my balls to wire up 2001 IS300s (they don't make wiring harnesses for this particular year so I had to splice the stock harness to the aftermarket one :x )...so I guess I'll have to deal with the stock 6x9s.
Thanks for the advice guys! 8)

Ok, here is the deal. There is actually a harness for that car. Its a Toyota amplifier integration harness. It uses the low level outputs on the aftermarket unit. Right now you are running high level to high level which will eventually burn up the Toyota factory amp. 8in subs are almost as worthless as a basstube. Even a single Kicker CVR 10 with a 300w amp would sound really good.
I would recommend that you rewire the factory system to remove the Toyota amp. That would give you cleaner power to your speakers. Then ad in a single or dual 10in sub and you will be full and able to bounce out when you want.

Yeah there is a harness, but it's really expensive and it doesn't work on the 2001 IS... only 2002+. I did fortunately bypass and throw out the stock amp (which caused much cursing and gnashing of knuckles) and the stock system sounds A LOT better. The weird thing is that the rear 6x9s are wired up to be 2 ohm or something and dont work with aftermarket head units apparently... but mine work just fine and sound great. Or something like that, I dunno that's what I gathered from the gurus on my.is.
So I guess i just have to wire in a 10" sub?? Ugh I really don't want to go through all that again. Otherwise I would have just kept my 10" Type R and amp.

There is a harness that works that is like $20. I have used one before I am almost sure of it. Its just s simple Metra Toyota amp harness. Anyway, you did the right thing. Removing the factory amp is the best way. As for the rears. They will overheat a standard headunit if used at high volumes. The internal amps on headunits are 4 ohm stable. Toyota used the stock rears as "subwoofers" so they used 2ohm for maximum efficiency. I would say you should swap those rears for aftermarket 6X9s and get a 10in sub and amp. I would gladly do the install for you if you would rather not bother with it.

You have, but I'm 99.9% sure it wasn't on an '01 IS, maybe '02+
I may take you up on that, we'll see!

We just received out 1st quarter Kicker order here at the shop and included are some 6" and 8" CVT bass drivers that require very little air space. We also have 10" and 12" CVT in truck like boxes that just pound. They have unbeleivable sound for the size and the price.
