any one familiar with Ford rear ends?

specifically 7.5"?

i have a Ford Racing Trac-Loc unit and 3.73 gears sitting in box, that i've had quite a while now. i'll pay for someone to install...... no, teach me to install them Wink .

Dale Engineering on 33W told me one time it would be about $250 to install. i might be somewhat mechanically inclined, but i've heard rear ends are not something to mess up.

" i'll pay for someone to install"

of course that will be when i get a job though, just asking now.

The tools alone required to properly setup a rear end can cost upwards of $500. Unless you plan on doing more than several rears. Just paysomeone to have it done. That is one of the only things I haven't done on my own.

P.S. lillitnn - The Black rumbling car behind you as you were at the light at Resavoir/Neff today, was me. I waved, you knodded your head like "why is this guy waving..."

yeah. i saw you, and i was doing that.

it was only until i scrunched up in my seat to see the front end of your car in the rear view, that i realized it was you. by then i felt like a fool. i didn't see you until the front had disappeared and then i saw someone waving. i started putting two and two together and then eased up in seat and saw XR front end.

and you were rumbling? hmm, must of had the hard trance pumping too loud.

Nothing a little Duct Tape couldn't help resolve! (Tape still on there, cap still holding...)

So what's so special about this LSD that requires special tools? Granted my only experience with American Diffs was my buddy's jeep.

Its not the LSD... it has to be set up with the proper clearances and preload or else it will destroy itself in short order. Its not an easy task.

that be the key here, it's my only ride, so i can't take chances. oh well, i guess $250 for and install isn't bad, but i have to wait for a job.

that's one thing i would really want to have done (besides lowering it) before i even attempt to try auto-x. getting both wheels to hook up is like me getting a date with Katherine Zeta Jones.....not going to happen!

I autocrossed an open-diff Mustang V6 for a couple of years. I wouldn't say I was competitive, but it was fun Smile
