any one familiar with Ford rear ends? - lillitnn92 - 03-31-2005 specifically 7.5"? i have a Ford Racing Trac-Loc unit and 3.73 gears sitting in box, that i've had quite a while now. i'll pay for someone to install...... no, teach me to install them .Dale Engineering on 33W told me one time it would be about $250 to install. i might be somewhat mechanically inclined, but i've heard rear ends are not something to mess up. " i'll pay for someone to install" of course that will be when i get a job though, just asking now. - white_2kgt - 03-31-2005 The tools alone required to properly setup a rear end can cost upwards of $500. Unless you plan on doing more than several rears. Just paysomeone to have it done. That is one of the only things I haven't done on my own. --chad - Andy - 03-31-2005 what's a trac loc unit? is it some sort of lsd? - PDenbigh - 03-31-2005 Yeppers - PDenbigh - 03-31-2005 P.S. lillitnn - The Black rumbling car behind you as you were at the light at Resavoir/Neff today, was me. I waved, you knodded your head like "why is this guy waving..." - lillitnn92 - 03-31-2005 PDenbigh Wrote:P.S. lillitnn - The Black rumbling car behind you as you were at the light at Resavoir/Neff today, was me. I waved, you knodded your head like "why is this guy waving..." yeah. i saw you, and i was doing that. it was only until i scrunched up in my seat to see the front end of your car in the rear view, that i realized it was you. by then i felt like a fool. i didn't see you until the front had disappeared and then i saw someone waving. i started putting two and two together and then eased up in seat and saw XR front end. and you were rumbling? hmm, must of had the hard trance pumping too loud. - Dave - 03-31-2005 no, seriously, his car rumbles. its sik I mean really, it rumbles like its mad or something
- Maengelito - 03-31-2005 Dave Wrote:no, seriously, his car rumbles. at the autox, i distinctly heard his blown 2.4 say "fuck you power steering reservoir cap" - white_2kgt - 04-01-2005 Maengelito Wrote:Dave Wrote:no, seriously, his car rumbles. 2.3 don't go giving him .1 ![]() --chad - PDenbigh - 04-01-2005 Maengelito Wrote:Dave Wrote:no, seriously, his car rumbles. Nothing a little Duct Tape couldn't help resolve! (Tape still on there, cap still holding...) - Andy - 04-01-2005 So what's so special about this LSD that requires special tools? Granted my only experience with American Diffs was my buddy's jeep. - .RJ - 04-01-2005 jackstands Wrote:So what's so special about this LSD that requires special tools? Its not the LSD... it has to be set up with the proper clearances and preload or else it will destroy itself in short order. Its not an easy task. - lillitnn92 - 04-01-2005 .RJ Wrote:it has to be set up with the proper clearances and preload or else it will destroy itself in short order. that be the key here, it's my only ride, so i can't take chances. oh well, i guess $250 for and install isn't bad, but i have to wait for a job. that's one thing i would really want to have done (besides lowering it) before i even attempt to try auto-x. getting both wheels to hook up is like me getting a date with Katherine Zeta Jones.....not going to happen! - JohnC - 04-01-2005 lillitnn92 Wrote:.RJ Wrote:it has to be set up with the proper clearances and preload or else it will destroy itself in short order. I autocrossed an open-diff Mustang V6 for a couple of years. I wouldn't say I was competitive, but it was fun
- HAULN-SS - 04-03-2005 Yea, my buddy put in his own positive traction differential one time..last great for about a year, then locked up and spun him into a telephone pole at about 40mph |
